Smith recapped the Summer Games experience held June 6-7 for the Hurricanes. Jennifer Slad is assistant coach for the Hurricanes.
”We had four athletes travel down to Illinois State University,” Smith said. All athletes competed in the softball throw event and Ford also competed in the 50M run. Myself and assistant coach Slad were there to lead the team along with many family members, friends, and administrators from District 158. The team participated in the opening ceremony including a parade of athletes, final lighting of the flame of hope by the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run, and athlete oath on Friday evening at Hancock Stadium. The athletes competed on Saturday morning starting with the boys in softball throw followed by Ford in her run and softball throw. The team came home with one gold, two silver and two fourth place medals. We are so proud.”
