Marlowe, Heineman fare well at state track meet
HUNTLEY — Huntley D158 middle schools track-and field teams from Marlowe and Heineman both fared well at the recent IESA state meet.
The highlight at the Illinois Elementary Sports Association (IESA) meet from both schools was eighth grader Myla Wade of Heineman’s squad earning second place in the eighth grade 400-meter run. Her time was 59.16 seconds.
“Wade ran a personal best and Heineman school record running a 59.16, and placing second in state. This girl is a dynamic runner and embraced the challenges that this event brings,” Heineman track-and-field coach Katy McCrystal said.
Also, the 4×100-meter relay team of Reagan Ellis, Rachel Hogan, Wade, Riley Galanis, Mya Ouimette ended fourth in 51.04 seconds. Mya Ouimette was the alternate.
“This is a group that has set goals each meet and held themselves to a very high standard. This payed off down in Peoria, as they ran a personal best and Heineman school record of 51.04 seconds, and placed fourth in state,” McCrystal said.
Marlowe results
Marlowe eighth grade boys track-and-field coach Haley Sadie was thrilled with the Mustangs’ efforts at state. Joseph Zawacki placed fifth in the mile run at the state meet in Peoria.
“Zawacki is a strong runner,” Sadie said. “He is someone one who is always trying to better himself. He came into conference prepared and ran a solid race with a time of 5:12.44. This was his personal best at the time and even with it being very windy the day of conference he was able to push himself and get that PR. At state he had an amazing start to his mile and was able to get out in front and keep a solid pace that helped him get that 5th place finish and destroy his previous personal best by 14 seconds to get a 4:58.”
The 4×400-meter relay was ran by Leo Torres, Hughston Walker, Anthony Madison and Mark Omoniyi ended in eighth place.
“These guys are all strong runners. They all are also very competitive which helps push themselves to their fullest potential. They would all set goals for the relay team and by the end of the season they were able to see that success. Most of the boys on this relay team participated in multiple running events each meet during our regular season meets and the best time we got with this group was a 4:12. With the additional rest between races at sectionals and at state we were able to see this team flourish and compete at a high level and shave off 27 seconds. Their state time for their eighth place finish was 3:45.37,” Sadie said.
She added, “the state experience was one where the kids got to compete at the highest level and showcase their talents but aLao enjoy the company of all those who went. All of the kids who went to state from Marlowe are so deserving of this opportunity. They are kind, funny, talented kids and it was a pleasure being there to support them at this joyous time in their life.”
