Elgin man charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing death of a female victim
ELGIN — Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser and Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley announced that Timothy Edwards, 65, of the 300 block of Fleetwood Drive in Elgin, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, Class M felonies.
Mosser alleges that on the morning of July 2, Edwards stabbed and killed his victim with a knife without lawful justification and with the intent to kill.
Elgin police officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Fleetwood Drive at approximately 11:57 a.m. after receiving a call from Edwards’ daughter regarding a possible domestic incident at her father’s residence. Officers arrived at the home, where they encountered Edwards at the door.
Edwards consented to the officers entering his apartment and showed law enforcement the location of the victim. The victim was found in the bedroom unresponsive and not breathing. In addition, the victim had no pulse, according to the Elgin Police Department.
Elgin Fire Department personnel provided initial aid to the victim who was subsequently transported to St. Joseph’s hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Evidence was found on the scene that indicated Edwards was involved in the death. Edwards was taken into custody shortly after and transported to the Elgin Police Department.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the victim where multiple stab wounds were discovered in the female’s chest. Defensive wounds in her left and right hands were also found. Kane County Coroner Rob Russell declared the preliminary manner of death as homicide.
Edwards appeared in court on July 5. Kane County Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo found that there was probable cause to support the charges brought forward against Edwards. The matter is to be continued on July 12 and will set a hearing on the state’s petition to deny the defendant pretrial release.
Edwards will remain in custody at the Kane County Adult Justice Center in St. Charles until his hearing date.
