Former taekwondo instructor and Huntley resident sentenced to serve 18 years in prison for child pornography charges
HUNTLEY — McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally announced that Allen Q. Nguyen, 30, formerly of Huntley has been sentenced to a combined sentence of 18 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for the offenses of child pornography pursuant to a negotiated plea taken in front of McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt on July 5.
According to Kenneally, on June 20, 2023, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received a cyber tip indicating that an unidentified internet subscriber was flagged due to having exchanged videos containing child pornography via the Snapchat app.
This information led the Huntley Police Department Investigations Division to conduct a four-month-long investigation into Nguyen, who resided in Huntley at the time.
After gathering enough evidence, law enforcement executed a search warrant for Nguyen’s residence where multiple electronic devices were located containing thousands of videos and images of child pornography.
Ultimately, Nguyen pleaded guilty to distributing one video depicting a child under the age of 13 years engaged in sex acts with an adult via Snapchat on May 24, 2023, and was sentenced to serve 12 years in the IDOC. Additionally, Nguyen pleaded guilty to possessing one video of a child under the age of 18 years engaged in sex acts with an adult and was sentenced to serve six years in the IDOC.
Kenneally added that the sentences are to be served consecutively and Nguyen is entitled to day-for-day credit for the time he was incarcerated at the McHenry County jail. Nguyen will have to register as a sex offender for life.
At the time of his arrest, Nguyen was employed as an instructor for Ha’s Taekwondo Academy located at 421 North Randall Road in Lake in the Hills. This case was prosecuted by McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Margaret O’Brien and was investigated by the Huntley Police Department.
Nguyen is still currently confined at the McHenry County jail in Woodstock.
