Man responsible for shooting a bar patron arrested after evading authorities for two years
EAST DUNDEE — Back in July 2022 at approximately 1:50 a.m., police officers were out patrolling the area of the East Dundee north municipal lot when they discovered an adult male staggering in the area of Water Street between Carol’s Corner bar (5 E Main Street) and the AT&T Maintenance Building (60 Water Street).
After further investigation, it was determined that the man was suffering from two gunshot wounds that were inflicted after having been involved in a physical altercation inside the Carol’s Corner bar with another male.
The victim was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin and later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was stabilized. In a July 24 update, East Dundee Police Chief Joshua Fourdyce stated that the victim “thankfully lived.”
Authorities stated that the suspect responsible for the shooting fled the scene when officers approached the area and were attending to the victim’s wounds. Due to the ongoing investigation, law enforcement only described the suspect as being a 32-year-old man with addresses in Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, Elgin, Carpentersville, and other areas. At the time, investigators also believed that the victim and the suspect may have casually known each other as patrons of the bar.
In the July 24 update, Fourdyce identified the suspect as Henry L. Black. Fourdyce added that arrest warrants were issued for Black early in the investigation, however, despite an extensive manhunt, Black managed to evade authorities for nearly two years.
On the evening of July 23, Black was stopped by an Algonquin Police officer for a routine traffic violation. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident for his outstanding East Dundee arrest warrants. Since Black was unable to post bond, he was transported to the Kane County Adult Justice Center in St. Charles where he currently remains.
Black was charged with two counts of aggravated battery, one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and one count of possession of a firearm without a FOID card.
His current bail is set at $525,000, with 10% ($52,500) to apply for bond. Black will appear in court for his pretrial hearing on July 31 at 9:07 a.m. in Courtroom 313 of the Kane County Judicial Center.
