Dead man found lying on a hillside side identified by police
CARPENTERSVILLE — On Aug. 21, Carpentersville Police Deputy Chief Kevin Stankowitz announced that the investigation into the discovery of a deceased male found on the side of Main Street hill, east of Route 31, has been completed.
The man has been identified as 33-year-old Matthew “Matt” Burke of West Dundee. Following the results of a medical examination that took place on Aug. 21, the Kane County Coroner’s Office ruled Burke’s death as accidental.
According to Burke’s obituary, he “passed away suddenly and very unexpectedly due to an accidental fall” that occurred in the early morning hours of Aug. 20. Burke was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin where he was pronounced deceased.
His family states that Burke was born in Elgin but has lived in West Dundee for the past 25 years. He was a 2012 graduate of H.D. Jacobs High School in Algonquin. While in high school, Burke served as a team manager for the Golden Eagles football team.
He was described as a fan of all things Marvel, including comic books, movies, and TV series. Burke also had a great affinity for the Star Wars films and enjoyed watching the Mandalorian series.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to Matthew’s family during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone who contacted us with information and potential leads,” said Stankowitz in a press release statement.
Visitations for Burke will be held at Miller Funeral Home in West Dundee on Aug. 25 from 1 p.m. until a funeral service at 3 p.m.
