Two Woodstock residents taken into custody for drug and attempted murder charges
WOODSTOCK — On Aug. 19 at approximately 11:53 p.m., officers from the Woodstock Police Department were dispatched to a “shots fired” call in the 600 block of Park Street. The officers met with the victim who stated that his vehicle was struck by gunfire.
Upon further investigation, authorities were able to observe bullet holes in the victim’s vehicle. It was reported that the victim was not injured in the shooting incident. After evidence of the crime was collected, officers were able to identify the suspect offender, including a location where the male suspect resided.
Law enforcement obtained a search warrant and entered the suspected offender’s residence where two people were taken into custody.
On Aug. 20, after conferring with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, investigators charged Jason F. Spitzer, 39, of Woodstock with one Class X felony count of attempted murder, one Class 1 felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, one Class 3 felony of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and one Class X felony of possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamines.
The second individual charged alongside Spitzer was Lauren M. Sounde, 39, also of Woodstock. She was charged with one Class X felony of possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamines and one Class 3 felony of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Reportedly, Spitzer is the son of retired Woodstock Police Officer Fred Spitzer, who also served as a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) officer for the community’s elementary and middle schools.
Both Spitzer and Sounde are currently confined at the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility in Woodstock. No bond has been given for either individual and both of their court dates are yet to be given as of Aug. 23.
