Soccer squad turns up heat in win
HUNTLEY — An emphasis on offense was executed well as Huntley’s boys soccer team gained its second straight win, with a 4-0 win over Hononegah Sept. 21.
On a steamy day at the pitch, four different players scored goals for the Red Raiders, who moved up to 5-4-2 with the non-conference win.
“We were rocking and rolling. Our focus was definitely the offense,” Huntley coach Matt Lewandowski said.
Huntley came out firing shots on goal from the start. Tallying goals were Aiden Felz (Allen Williams assist); Anthony Frelas (Felz); Tylar Caddick (Lazar Karanovic) and Aktai Mametjanov (Nate Rodriquez).
The Red Raiders begin the FVC dominated stretch this week. They are 1-0 in FVC play with a 1-0 win at McHenry. Huntley hosts Jacobs Sept. 24 and is at Prairie Ridge at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 26. Caddick, a 10-year soccer veteran who got his start in Huntley and Crystal Lake Force’s youth programs, commented on what went well against Hononegah (5-4-1).
“We distributed the ball well, from midfield to striker and forward,” the senior said.
Through 11 matches, Mametjanov is the leading scorer with four goals. A junior, he has worked his way up to varsity to contribute to the offense from his forward slot.
“He has all the skills plus brings a passion to the game,” coach Lewandowski said of Mametjanov.
“He brings a lot of energy,” Caddick said.
Win over McHenry
The Red Raiders traveled to McHenry to begin Fox Valley Conference play and won 1-0. Aidan Herrera scored the match winner in the second half.
“We had to come up with a result because it was the first match in FVC play,” Lewandowski said.
Loss to Round Lake
The Panthers downed HHS 3-1. Tyler Murray scored the Huntley goal in the first half.
