Tennis team chalks up FVC wins
HUNTLEY — Seeking another Fox Valley Conference girls tennis championship, the Red Raiders are off to a good start.
“I think we have had a solid season so far, with nine players back from our FVC championship team last season, They have all been doing very well,” coach Barry Wells said.
The Red Raiders won two matches over Prairie Ridge and Hampshire last week and were 6-0 in FVC duals, 16-2 overall. They face Cary-Grove in a key league battle there Sept. 26. Crystal Lake Central will host the upcoming FVC tournament Oct. 11.
“I think Cary-Grove will give us a test in conference, they did last year,” Wells said.
Huntley hosted Marian Central, Mundelein and Woodstock North in a quad meet Sept. 21 and won all three battles in shutouts.
Wells said Marian Central was a challenge, as No. 1 singles Ella Doughty and No. 2 Gia Patel each had to win tiebreakers on 3-0 days.
“I think Marian Central is the third best team in the area,” Wells said.
The No. 1 doubles of Carlie Weishaar and Kate Burkey as well as the No. 2 doubles of Julie Klockner and Ari Patel were all 3-0. The No. 3 doubles duo of Shea Nagle and Vinathna DePala won twice.
