HUNTLEY — The Huntley boys golf squad advanced to the IHSA Class 3A Sectional at Randall Oaks Country Club, but their season came to an end Oct. 8 as no Red Raider qualified for the state meet.
Senior Taig Bhathal had the best round of an HHS golfer as he shot a 78 for 33rd place.
Also for the Red Raiders: junior Grey Birkmeier fired an 80 for second on the HHS team, 45th overall; junior Jack Policheri and sophomore Carson Elder both turned in a score of 83, for 60th; junior Austin Matich had an 84 for 66th while soph Nate Haisch’s 89 for 85th rounded out the scoring.
Head golf coach Collin Kalamatas praised Bhathal’s career.
“Bhathal had a phenomenal career at HHS,” Kalamatas said. “He was the junior varsity Fox Valley Conference tournament champion his freshman year, then went on to have a terrific three-year career on the varsity. We are so proud of what he did as a Red Raider. He has a freshman brother in our program, so we’re looking forward to the future with his brother Jovan, as well as the rest of the guys in our program.”
Bhathal is undecided on his college plans at this point.
At the team’s awards banquet, the team honored senior Christo Sourasis with the Arnold Palmer Award (for the best teammate)and Bhathal won our Low Scoring Average award.
