Community unites to support beloved resident battling cancer
HUNTLEY—In a heartfelt display of unity and compassion, Huntley residents are invited to gather at Niko’s Grill and Pub (7509 Grant Highway, Marengo) on Feb. 8 at 5 p.m., for a special fundraiser to support Jim Udesen, a cherished member of the community who is currently battling Stage 4 Glioblastoma. The event, titled “Benefit for Couch Ude,” is expected to bring together hundreds of friends, neighbors, and local businesses, all rallying to provide financial assistance and emotional support.
Udesen has reportedly served McHenry County for over 20 years as a sheriff’s deputy for the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. According to his fundraiser flyer, beyond the badge, he is also a loving husband and father, a beloved coach for the Huntley-based Raiders Baseball Academy, and a huge advocate for others, organizing and sponsoring countless fundraisers over the years to assist in different causes.
Udesen was diagnosed with cancer this past spring, which has caused him and his family to face mounting medical bills, making community support more crucial than ever.
The fundraiser will feature a variety of activities, including a variety of raffles, music, and the opportunity to purchase “Ude Strong” t-shirts and hoodie sweaters.
“I met Jim and Dawn (Udesen) when my son, Brandon, was little and Jim was going to be his coach. I was a single mom at the time, and juggling three travel baseball schedules with the impossible task of being at three different times in three different towns,” said event organizer Tiffany Jernigan via Facebook. “We instantly hit it off because they are just my [kind of] people. Amazing people! Jim and Brandon shared the ultimate love of baseball that weekend and instantly bonded…[It’s] our turn to wrap our arms around you.”
The fundraiser will not only provide much-needed financial assistance but also serve as a reminder of the strength and compassion that defines the Huntley community. For those who are unable to attend the event but still wish to contribute, donations are being accepted via Zelle through [email protected].
As Udesen continues his journey, the community stands united, proving once again that even in the face of adversity, the power of love and support can make all the difference.
