Boys bowlers defend league crown
HUNTLEY — Huntley held off challenges from other boys bowling teams to capture the Fox Valley-Kishwaukee River Conference trophy for the second straight year.
Red Raiders coach Jacob Wagner was pleased with the team’s efforts at Kingston Lanes in Woodstock Jan. 10. HHS was led by tournament champion Matt Fishman’s 1,355 final score. Huntley and several area teams are preparing for the IHSA boys bowling regional at Glo-Bowl in Marengo Jan. 18.
For Fishman, the league meet title came after a recent decision to bowl at Judson University, a community college in Elgin, next season. Fishman won first place in the tournament with 1,355 pins. He edged Woodstock co-op’s Max Haggerty’s 1,351 total. Haggerty, a junior, provided the tournament’s individual highlight with a perfect game of 300 in the final game.
In addition to Fishman, Joe Humphrey ended tied for third place, 1,281 while Noah Waters was fifth, 1,279. Austin Tenglin contributed 1,223 for seventh place and Landen Conforti earned a 1,146 total and finished 13th.
“Our team had a great day at the tournament and this whole season,” Wagner said. “Finishing 13-1 in conference and we won both varsity and junior varsity championships. Fishman won the tournament Friday and rolled the ball great all day finishing first overall for the tournament. All five of the boys who bowled at the tournament finished in the top 15. The boys started off hot with an 1,114 in game one. It was a fun day and the boys are looking forward to our regional at Marengo’s Glo-Bowl next Saturday.”
