Rohrbacher gains 100th wrestling career win
HUNTLEY — Huntley’s third place state tournament winner last season, Aubrie Rohrbacher, has gained more accomplishments.
Rohrbacher notched a quick victory for the Huntley girls wrestling team in a dual match against McHenry Jan. 16, her 103rd career victory in three seasons. Following the battle with the Warriors, the Red Raiders junior and team leader at 130 pounds received accolades for her achievement of 100 career wins.
The match when the accomplishment happened took place Dec. 21, at the IWCOA duals with a fall against a Morton opponent. She posted an unbeaten record at the duals at Hoffman Estates.
Rohrbacher is a dual varsity sport athlete, as she also plays lacrosse. She has racked up 144 career takedowns and finished third at the IHSA girls wrestling duals finals at 130 last season.
“It’s definitely been a journey,” Rohrbacher said. “The best part was all the hard work. This season, I worked on getting to my offense a lot more with my shots. My routine is just go wrestle.”
Red Raiders head girls wrestling coach Gannon Kosowski praised Rohrbacher’s determination. Rohrbacher had a 28-6 record after the McHenry match.
“She works so hard, at both wrestling and lacrosse, even coaching some young girls lacrosse players,” Kosowski said. “We have worked on what she does well.”
Rohrbacher’s team contributions are also appreciated by head girls lacrosse coach Joe Domka. That season begins right after state girls wrestling. Huntley is coming off a 16-win 2024 effort.
“Rohrbacher has been an outstanding player on varsity girls lacrosse,” Domka said. “During her sophomore year she stepped into a starting midfield role. She has a lot of grit and fight in her and shows it by how dedicated she is to playing the game of lacrosse. In the off season, you can catch Rohrbacher playing club lacrosse or wrestling. She is always putting in an effort to improve her skills.”
Standout girls wrestlers
Another girls wrestler having an outstanding season is sophomore Grecia Garcia, who is 19-6 at 135 pounds. Garcia and Rohrbacher are the team’s captains.
“This is her second year in wrestling and she has made a huge improvement,” Kosowski said of Garcia.
“Garcia and Rohrbacher have done a great job not only wrestling this season but helping lead the team,” Kosowski said. “Their work ethic both on and off the mat is very impressive and it shown best of the way they have wrestled thus far.”
Also, Huntley 235-pounder Sara Willis has gained a 21-11 mark.
“Overall the IWCOA duals were great it was the first girls state dual tournament,” Kosowski said. “It was a lot of fun to be involved in a team setting our record was 3-3 with all duals coming down to the last match. The team is looking really good, we had some of our best matches at the dual team tournament and I’m looking forward to our upcoming conference dual meets.”
McHenry posted a 54-27 victory Jan. 16 at HHS’s central gym. Rohrbacher and Garcia were among the Red Raiders’ winners. Abigail Ward, at 145 pounds, was victorious as well as Brianna Felde, at 190 pounds.
The Red Raiders conclude the dual match season Jan. 24 versus Dundee-Crown Jan. 24 for senior night.
