
Girls bowling wins league crown; DeBello earns Bowler of Year
HUNTLEY — Huntley will head to the IHSA Girls Bowling Regional meet with momentum from a Fox Valley-Kishwaukee River Conference championship.
Red Raiders senior Erica DeBello led the way with a total of 1,300 pins at Kingston Lanes in Woodstock Jan. 31. She won the conference Bowler of the Year honor. The Red Raiders finished with 5,316 total pins.
“I’m excited for our team,” Erica DeBello said. “We started off amped and kept going. I feel good about regional.”
After Erica DeBello, Prianca Waters finished fifth with 1,106 total while Ashlyn Tenglin was right behind, 1,093 for sixth and the three were all-conference. Also contributing, Katie Scaletta was 14th, 980 while Mackenzie Miller ended 47th, 426 and Jana Boudreau, 50th, 285. The Red Raiders were 13-0 in league dual matches.
Coach Eric DeBello was thrilled with the league championship.
“We started well, it’s very important to come out strong,” he said. “It was good we were paired up with Marengo. I’m proud of the energy we brought. For Erica’s performance, I’m super proud of her.”
The Red Raiders are aiming for advancement from the Kaneland regional, Feb. 7 at Mardi Gras Lanes in DeKalb. Sectional is next for qualifiers, at Poplar Creek Bowl in Hoffman Estates Feb. 15.
“We want to qualify as a team,” coach DeBello said.
The Red Raiders finished third at the Belvidere tournament Feb. 1 to conclude the regular season. Waters led with a 1,195 pins total for seventh place; Erica DeBello contributed 1,155, 13th; Tenglin, 1,115, 15th; Boudreau, 1,097, 20th and Scaletta, 1,096, 22nd.
