
Girls bowling ends season at sectional
HUNTLEY — Huntley’s girls bowling team concluded its season at the IHSA Girls Bowling Sectional held at Plum Hollow Family Center in Dixon. The Red Raiders finished ninth of 12 teams with 5,331 total pins Feb. 15.
Senior Erica DeBello had the top score with 1,171 total pins. Sophomore Ashlyn Tenglin was next with a 1,072 and junior Katie Scaletta contributed a 1,039. Senior Prianca Waters rolled a 992 and senior Jana Boudreau pitched in an 895.
“We got a tough draw having to travel to the Oregon Sectional in Dixon,” coach Eric DeBello said. “We gave it our best shot against some of the best teams in the state. The girls continued to fight as they have done all season long.”
Coach DeBello noted the outstanding rounds to finish the season.
“Tenglin had a good look in Dixon, while Scaletta battled all day as did Waters,” the coach said. “Boudreau had games of 203 and 211 in games three and four. DeBello had a 1,171 for a 195 average. Games four and five were electric and the energy was incredible.”
Coach DeBello summed up that this was a great season, with defense of the Red Raiders’ Fox Valley-Kishwaukee River Conference title. Erica DeBello, who is a Wichita State University commit won the conference Bowler of the Year honor.
“We touched 1,000 pins four times throughout the seaso at invites,” Eric DeBello said. “We had many team games that were in the 900s this year and last year we were in the 800s.”
Final total games and averages were: Erica DeBello, 104 games, 198 average; Scaletta, 98 games, 179 average; Waters, 100 games, 177 average; Mackenzie Miller, 79 games, 162 average and Boudreau, 73 games, 140 average.
Returning bowlers for next season are Tenglin and juniors Scaletta, Mackenzie Miller, Kaelyn Keegan and Vanessa Vazquez.
“The future looks good, with Tenglin, Scaletta, Miller and Keegan returning,” coach DeBello said. “Vazquez should be moving up from the junior varsity.”
