
Special Olympics 5K run set for April 5
HUNTLEY — Coming up on Saturday, April 5 is the Huntley Police Department (HPD) hosted the Fourth Annual “Don’t Be Fooled by a Disability” 5K run to benefit the Law Enforcement Run for Special Olympics Illinois.
According to a press release statement from Huntley Police Deputy Chief Amy Williams, the “Don’t Be Fooled by a Disability” 5K run event will be held at the Huntley Town Square, on Coral Street between Church and Woodstock streets. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., followed by a torch lighting ceremony at 8:40 a.m. The 5K run will begin at 9 a.m. This will be a fun run-walk format. Special Olympics Athletes will award the runners at the finish line with a “foolish treat.”
Water stations will be set up midway through the run and at the finish line. Pre-registration cost for the run is $25 for ages 13 and over and $15 for those ages 12 and under. On-line registraton closes April 3. Cost for day of registration is $30 for those 13 and over and $20 for participants age 12 and under. All runners will receive a t-shirt and a “foolish treat.”
About Law Enforcement Torch Run
According to the HPD press release, The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the single largest year-round fundraising vehicle benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. The Huntley Police Department has supported the LETR since 1996.
Special Olympics is a nonprofit organization providing year-round sports training and competition in 18 sports for more than 21,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and nearly 9,000 young athletes ages 2-7 with and without intellectual disabilities.
Cop on a Rooftop
Huntley Police Department officers will also participate in “Cop on a Rooftop” fund-raising campaign for Special Olympics Illinois on Friday, May 16. It will take place at the Huntley Dunkin locations, 12090 Princeton Drive and 9800 Route 47 from 5 a.m. – 12 p.m.
