McHenry County’s first COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic discontinues walk-in COVID-19 testing; Kane County remains cautious amid record numbers of COVID cases
MCHENRY COUNTY – The McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) had previously announced in late September 2021 that the county’s first COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic located at 1900 N. Richmond Road in McHenry, would no longer be administrating COVID-19 vaccinations for residents, however, they would continue to offer walk-in testing.
As of recent, with the omicron variant of the coronavirus having caused a spike in COVID-19 infections, counties across Illinois have seen an influx of residents requesting COVID-19 tests.
This has led Curative, the organization responsible for COVID-19 testing at the McHenry-based clinic, to discontinue walk-in testing due to being unable to accommodate the high demand from residents.
“Testing will continue to be offered at the location, but an appointment is necessary. Visit Curative.com to schedule an appointment. Those who are with limited or no internet access and want to schedule an appointment should call the MCDH COVID-19 [hotline] at (815) 334-4045 for assistance,” said MCDH.
McHenry County residents may also look for other COVID-19 testing locations by visiting bit.ly/MCDHCOVIDTesting1. MCDH states that residents should ask how and when results will be received before testing.
As for the Kane County Health Department (KCHD), they recently reported that one in five residents that are being tested for COVID are coming back as positive cases.
Additionally, Kane County is averaging over 900 new COVID cases per day over the past week, while hospitalizations due to COVID have more than doubled over the past month, said KCHD in a Jan. 5 press release.
“We want to let our residents know that the potential to come into contact with someone with COVID is higher than it has ever been. We hope this information will be helpful in making decisions whether to be around others over the next few weeks,” said Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog. “I would like to encourage our residents to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and get vaccinated.”
KCHD continues to offer a full range of COVID-19 vaccines for those five and older at the Kane Vax Hub located at 501 N. Randall Road in Batavia. Kane County residents should check KaneVax.org for availability.
More than 90 Kane County community partners have been identified by KCHD as also providing the COVID-19 vaccine. An updated list is available at KaneHealth.com.
Kane County residents may also visit KCHD’s website for additional information about COVID-19. Calls with questions about COVID-19 can be made to the health department at 630-208-3801.
As a final note, MCDH urges residents that have complaints regarding a testing site’s protocols, missing results, or other serious service-related complaints, to call 800-252-4343.
Suspicion of fraud should be directed to local police and the Illinois Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division, said MCDH.
