Elgin Police Department recognizes Irish police officer in honor of St. Patrick’s Day
ELGIN — In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, the Elgin Police Department highlighted one of their own officers, Ultan Gallagher.
The Elgin Police Department explained that Gallagher was born and raised in Ireland and had left his family of 10 siblings to chase his life-long dream of immigrating to the U.S.
Gallagher has a robust social work background and so far during his tenure at the Elgin Police Department, he has worked patrol and he has become part of the Emergency Services Detail (ESD).
When asked what made him choose Elgin as the police department he wanted to work for; he said, “I did a lot of research about various agencies in Illinois. I really wanted to work for an agency that was forward-thinking and well-resourced. I actually heard great things about EPD and the officers who work here. After doing a lot of research on Elgin, I realized that EPD was the right fit for me.”
Additionally, Gallagher was asked what his favorite memory has been while being in Elgin.
He responded with, “I really got a good laugh out of the community’s reaction to me riding a mechanical bull last summer. Reading the comments online was quite funny. Elgin definitely has a sense of humor! Driving by and having people asking me if I was the ‘rodeo cop’ made me laugh!”
The Elgin Police Department ended their highlight of their own “Irish lad” by adding that Gallagher had never tried the breakfast cereal Lucky Charms until he moved to the United States.
