Red Raiders 9 click in early going
It’s so far, so good for the Huntley baseball squad.
The Red Raiders own a 4-1 record in non-conference contests.
“We played well in all three areas, pitching, defense and hitting,” HHS coach Andy Jakubowski said. “That’s what we preach.”
The coach described a 9-0 shutout of Schaumburg March 21 as the best baseball that the team has played.
Pitchers Peyton Barr, Harout Meyer and Josh Good combined for 14 strikeouts of Saxons.
Offensively, the mentor noted Brandon Hanley, Joe Garlin, Brayden Bakes and Josh Quinlan as players with clutch at-bats. The Red Raiders scored seven of their nine runs in the later stages.
“That’s what we like to do against a good starter, score when we can, then hopefully get into their bullpen. It was a good bounce-back win after a heart-breaking loss to Edwardsville.”
HHS beat Moline 19-3 but fell to host Edwardsville 5-4 March 19.
