
Johnsons achieve trio of State Meet medals
HUNTLEY – Huntley’s girls track-and-field team came home from the IHSA Class 3A state meet with two championships and one second place – from the same family.
Alex Johnson successfully defended her long jump championship and won the triple jump as well with younger sister, freshman Dominique Johnson finished runner-up. The Red Raiders finished fifth in team standings with 33 points at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
The Johnson’s efforts concluded in the Saturday finals as Alex Johnson defended her title in the Long Jump with an effort of 6.00 meters, beating Denise Hernandez of Naperville North’s 5.86 meters.
The Triple Jump achievements of both Alex Johnson and Dominiue Johnson thrilled the O’Brien Stadium crowd as Alex edged Dominuiue, 12.33 meters to 12.17 meters. The duo was first and second after the Friday prelims.
Alex Johnson ended 11th in the 100 meter run, with a 17.73 after an eighth-place prelims.
For the field events, sophomore Ally Panzloff qualified for the Discus finals with a PR of 34.5 meters and finished in 10th place with a throw of 36.13 meters.
In relays, efforts were led by a 13th place finish in the 4×400 meter prelims as Jessie Ozzauto, Sammi Campanelli, Anna Campanelli and Victoria Evtimoc finished in 4:07.08.
Sophomore Sophie Amin was 21st in the 100-meter hurdles, at 16.06.
Junior Brenna Burak was 23rd in the 3,200 meter run, 11:17.63 time. Junior Brenna Burak was 23rd in the 3,200 meter run at 5:36.62 in the prelims.
Melissa Aninagyei-Bonsu finished 18th in the 100 meter run prelims.
