
Red Raiders come home for sectional
HUNTLEY – Huntley’s softball team continued its dominance of the regional post-season round with a seventh straight championship with a 10-0, five inning win over Rockford Auburn May 28 at De Kalb.
HHS will host Fox Lake Grant at 4:30 p.m. June 1 in the Class 4A sectional. The Huntley sectional final is at 4:30 p.m. June 3.
Huntley’s Jori Heard, who was ranked in the top five nationally in strikeouts by MaxPreps, chalked up 12 more K’s and walked none, with the lone base runner reaching via an error. Heard reached 382 strikeouts this season. Her 0.39 ERA ranks 36th. Her catcher, freshman Madison Rozanski, is one of many with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Against Auburn the Red Raiders, 31-6, received contributions from Reese Hunkins, Madison Smith, Alyssa Eckstrom and Zoe Doherty with two RBIs each.
Heard notched another perfect game in a 9-0 triumph over DeKalb in the regional first round May 24. She fanned 16 hitters with no walks. At the plate Heard was 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Huntley comes into sectional play ranked 11th in Illinois, seventh in Class 4A and sixth in Chicago by MaxPreps.
Team statistical leaders are: Heard in batting average, 0.432; Meg Ryan for on-base percentage, 0.495; Smith with five home runs and Katie Mitchell has totaled 48 stolen bases.
