Republican candidate Robb Tadelman wins primary election for the office of McHenry County Sheriff
MCHENRY COUNTY — While some residents may have taken advantage of early voting, polls for the 2022 general primary election officially opened on June 28.
Despite there being plenty of candidates running for several offices in McHenry County, none have seen as much media coverage as that of the two Republican candidates who were running for the office of McHenry County Sheriff.
As a reminder, McHenry County Sheriff candidate Antonio “Tony” Colatorti notoriously had to face off against the McHenry County Electoral Board after two McHenry residents jointly filed a petition challenging Colatorti’s qualifications to run for sheriff.
Ultimately after several meetings, the electoral board unanimously voted that Colatorti did possess the necessary qualifications to run for sheriff and therefore could remain on the ballot.
A McHenry County Circuit Court judge later ruled in Colatorti’s favor after the objectors requested a judicial review of the electoral board’s decision back in April.
Colatorti and opposing Republican candidate Robb Tadelman, who also serves as McHenry County’s undersheriff, often clashed throughout both of their campaign tours as the two candidates were prepared to take over the sheriff’s position from retiring McHenry County Sheriff Bill Prim.
As polls closed for voting at 7 p.m. on June 28, officials began counting the 43,635 ballots cast by McHenry County residents.
As of 11:05 p.m., the official McHenry County 2022 general primary election website shows that Tadelman won the primary election for the office of McHenry County Sheriff with 16,786 votes compared to Colatorti’s vote count of 11,433.
Shortly after the results were released, Colatorti issued a statement on his campaign’s Facebook page.
“Friends, we’ve come to the end. Unfortunately, we came up short but the support you have shown myself and Brittany (Colatorti) is humbling beyond words. Let’s all come together and give our full support to our Republican nominee for Sheriff, Robb Tadelman,” wrote Colatorti on Facebook. “Although we have disagreements, we share a common goal for a better McHenry County. Best of luck to Robb Tadelman and his family in that endeavor.”
Tadelman had not released a statement at the time of this reporting, however, he did change his campaign’s Facebook page banner to include an image of him and his family with “Thank you! McHenry County!” written on the left-hand side of the banner.
