
Pinecrest hosts McHenry Co. Jr. Golf event
HUNTLEY – The McHenry County Jr. Golf Association’s (MCJGA) summer tournament swing came to Huntley’s Pinecrest Golf Club June 29-30. Boys and girls competed ages 13-18 in the Pinecrest Open.
The MCJGA is based in Crystal Lake and has grown in its schedule of tournaments from three to 13. The 2022 season started in late April and ends at the fall classic Oct. 15 at Pinecrest.
“We have had good participation this year, about 40 to 55 golfers each tournament,” McHenry County Jr. Golf Association director Mike Hasse said.
“What began as an organization designed to introduce young players to tournament golf has also become a highly competitive forum for the area’s best golfers,” according to the MCJGA web site.
Golfers competed in hot and windy conditions at Pinecrest. Division top finishers, who earned plaques, and their scores were:
Boys ages 16-19: 1. Brendan Busky, Huntley, 72-78, 150; 2. Nathan Elm, Huntley, 77, 77, 154; 3. Eric Brown, Hampshire, 82, 74, 156.
Boys 13-15: Taig Bhathal, Huntley, 77, 83, 160; 2. Jimmy Snyder, St. Ignatius, 76, 85, 161; 3. Jack Bice, Crystal Lake Central, 81, 82, 163.
Girls 16-18: 1. Liv Romer, Wauconda, 78, 74, 152, with five birdies; 2. Aubrey Dingbaum, Huntley, 82, 82, 164; 3 Lily Farnam, Hampshire, 88, 88, 176, won in tie-break, Ila Fontaine, South Elgin, 88, 88, 176.
Girls 13-15: Rylee Rud, Crystal Lake South, 49, 46, 95; 2. Sophie Morawski, Dundee-Crown, 49, 47, 96; 3. Sydney Elm, Huntley, 50, 53, 103.
Future tournaments include another two-day event, July 12-13 at Boone Country Club in McHenry and at Foxford Hills in Cary July 18.
