
Nitz claims invite title at Lake Park
HUNTELY – Huntley sophomore Tommy Nitz outran the competition to win the Lake Park Invitational boys cross-country race Sept. 10 in Roselle. The boys squad placed third overall.
“There were lots of good performances,” HHS cross country coach Matt Kaplan said of the boys and girls’ effort at Lake Park. The boys placed three in the top 25. Nitz covered the three-mile course in 15:10.8.”
Following Nitz in the top 25 were: Ty Rasmussen, 15:44.4; 19. Zach Zuzzio, 16:11.0 and 24. Luke Grubbs, 16:14.3. Hudson Fisher finished 34th in 16:45.6 and Jaden Gutierrez was 45th, 16:54.1.
HHS finished with 87 points for third place behind Wheaton-Warrenville South’s 42 points and Wheaton North was next at 69.
Girls race
“Our girls varsity finished fourth overall against some very tough competition,” Kaplan said. “The team was led by Breanna Burak in eighth place in a new personal best of 17:33.6 and Brittney Burak in 11th with a personal best time of 17:50.2.”
The Buraks were followed by: 30. Guillermina Gimenez Canet, 18:51.9; 40. Molly Allen, 19:15.1; 61. Ava Allison, 20:06.0. 67. Gabrielle Sweeney, 20:23.6 and 86. Abbie Williams, 21:11.0.
Post-season
The Red Raiders were assigned to the Class 3A Rockford Harlem Regional Oct. 22 and the Lake Park course in Roselle for the Oct. 29 sectional.
“The Lake Park course is where our teams will return for the IHSA Sectional,” Kaplan said. “The meet gave us a good preview of what to expect.”
