Update: Elgin Police Department arrests man who attempted to kidnap a local student
ELGIN — As previously reported in My Huntley News, the Elgin Police Department was seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a Hispanic male who grabbed a 17-year-old female student’s arm after she ignored his advances.
On Sept. 29, officers were dispatched to the area of S. Channing Street and Fulton Street after the student reported that the Hispanic male was following her in his vehicle and was attempting to speak to her.
The young female continued to walk away from the subject, however, at some point, the Hispanic male exited his vehicle and grabbed the student’s arm.
Fortunately, she was able to pull away uninjured and immediately reported the incident.
The suspect left the area in a silver Honda Odyssey, which was last seen traveling eastbound on Division Street from Gifford Street.
After some further investigative efforts and a review of the case by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, 32-year-old Juan Alvarado-Lopez of the 700 block of Parkway Avenue in Elgin, was identified as the suspect who attempted to kidnap the female student.
He has since been charged with attempted kidnapping, a Class 3 felony.
Alvarado-Lopez appeared in a Kane County bond call this weekend where the judge set his bond at $70,000. He only needed to apply 10% of that amount ($7,000) to be released from jail.
He is expected to appear in court again on Oct. 27 at 9 a.m. for a status hearing.
