New Huntley Police sergeant introduced at Village Board meeting
HUNTLEY — At the Jan. 27 Village Board meeting, Huntley Police Chief Robert Porter introduced Officer Marques Griffith, who would be sworn in as a new sergeant assigned to the Patrol Division.
Porter began by first giving a little bit of background regarding Griffith. He graduated from Proviso East High School located in Maywood, Illinois back in 1994. Griffith then attended Triton College where he began his work towards an associate’s degree.
Porter stated that Griffith is currently enrolled at Lewis University and is looking to complete his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice.
As for his law enforcement background, Griffith first began his career in 2001 at the Hoffman Estates Police Department as a civilian desk officer. He then transitioned to the Elgin Police Department in 2005 to take on the role of a community service officer (CSO). In 2007, Griffith joined the Huntley Police Department.
“After joining our department, he attended the Police Training Institute at the University of Illinois [in] Champaign,” said Porter. “Marques has held a number of roles for our agency.”
Porter highlighted Griffith’s time served in temporary rotational assignments in the Criminal Investigations Division in 2010 and his work in the North Central Narcotics Task Force in 2013.
During his Criminal Investigations assignment, Griffith received a letter of recognition from the Elgin Police Department for the assistance he provided on one of their cases. In 2018, he also received a letter of commendation for his efforts in preserving life and property while responding to a structure fire in town.
In addition, Griffith has served as an Officer-in-Charge (OIC) and has acted as the department’s Defensive Tactics and Taser instructor for several years.
He is currently serving on the Innovations Team and the Strategic Planning Committee. With his new job title, Griffith will serve as the “Area 4 sergeant.”
After having been officially sworn into his new role, Griffith took the time to say a few words to attendees.
“Thank you to Mayor (Tim) Hoeft, [Village] Manager (Dave) Johnson, the Village Board, and Chief Porter. I want to express my appreciation and gratitude for this new opportunity. Thank you to my wife, Mai, and my children. You’ve been by my side for over 20 years and I can’t say enough to thank you,” said Griffith. “I also want to thank the rest of my family and friends who came out to support me. There’s a quote that says, ‘Being promoted does not grant privilege or power. It imposes responsibility,’ and so, I will remain overly dedicated as I continue to serve the village in this position of greater responsibility.”
