
Village offers special brush pick-up
HUNTLEY — A special brush collection to assist residents with cleanup from the July 12 storm event will be offered Monday, July 17, the Village of Huntley announced.
According to a village press release statement, residents should have their debris out on the parkway by 7 a.m. July 17. As they clean up their properties, residents are asked to keep tree debris separate from the house and place debris near the street, as this aids with the removal and disposal process. Please stack branches along the curb line so that the trunks (the larger end of the branch) are all facing the same direction; either toward the roadway or with traffic.
The following items will not be accepted during branch pickup services:
- Tree limbs larger than 10 ” in diameter or smaller than one-half inch in diameter;
- Tied bundles of branches;
- Bagged material or material in cans;
- Leaves and yard waste;
- Trimmings from brushes;
- Evergreen material and
- Stumps of any kind.
Materials not accepted can be properly disposed of by contacting your waste hauler or utilizing a landscape service.
Tornado confirmed by NWS
The National Weather Service on July 13 confirmed the tornado touched down which struck Huntley July 12 was an EF-1 in intensity, with wind speeds of about 90 MPH.
The timing of the tornado was 6:08 – 6:29 p.m., according to the NWS storm survey team’s findings. Across 6.9 miles and a width of 200 yards. There were no injuries or deaths. McHenry County Emergency Management assisted with the storm survey.
