Randall Oaks Zoo announces the construction of a new small animal facility
WEST DUNDEE—The Randall Oaks Zoo, located at 1180 N Randall Road, announced the construction of a new 2,200-square-foot building.
The project, which they have named “World of Wonders,” will guide guests through different biomes, or areas that are classified according to the species of animal that live in that location.
According to the Randall Oaks Zoo website, the biomes will be expected to immerse individuals in grasslands, forests, and deserts. The project will allow the zoo to have more animals on exhibit and allow the zoo to operate year-round.
The new facility is being funded by a $750,000 Illinois Department of Natural Resources Public Museum Capital Grant that is provided by the state of Illinois. The grant was awarded to the Dundee Township Park District last March.
The district will be covering the remainder of any project costs. The new facility will feature habitats for small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, stated Randall Oaks Zoo representatives.
In addition, the facility is expected to offer education regarding conservation and habitat protection and bathroom facilities.
The zoo was also excited to announce that a new permanent pony ride pavilion is being constructed alongside the new facility, which will replace the zoo’s current setup. The project is anticipated to be completed in 2024.
“With the new animal building, the zoo can continue connecting the community with wildlife and nature to create a sense of wonder, discovery, respect, and appreciation of the natural world,” said Randall Oaks Zoo representatives.
Updates to the new project will continue to be posted on the Randall Oaks Zoo website.
