Red Raiders spikers keep FVC lead
HUNTLEY — It was one-time student versus her coach when Cary-Grove visited Huntley for a Fox Valley Conference volleyball clash Sept. 12.
Huntley head volleyball coach Karen Naymola once was a Trojan for coach Patty Langanis. Langanis is in her 29th year at C-G, but this night went to Naymola’s Red Raiders in a 25-12, 25-10 win.
It was a milestone win for the Red Raiders, now 8-0, 7-0 FVC, as it was Huntley’s 25th straight league victory.
“I played for C-G all four years. It was fun to play for coach Langanis. Now it’s always nice coaching against her in the FVC,” Naymola said.
Naymola went on to a successful college volleyball career at Eastern Illinois University and coached at Hampshire before Huntley.
The Red Raiders looked strong in several areas in their 2-0 win over the Trojans, Naymola said.
“It was a great team effort,” the coach said. “Laura Boberg really did a great job mixing up the offense. I’m proud of this team effort. And even after a great win, these girls came in today and worked hard in a tough fast-paced practice.”
Senior setter Boberg contributed 19 assists, four digs, one kill, one block and one ace.
Senior Morgan Jones had six kills, five digs and one ace. Junior Georgia Watson also had six kills while senior Lizzy Williams had four kills, one assist, one dig and one ace.
Junior Alex Goritz pitched in five digs and three aces. Senior Avery Gonzalez chalked up four kills and one block.
Beat D-C, 2-0
The Red Raiders improved to 9-0, 8-0 FVC with a 25-9, 25-12 win at the Chargers Sept. 14.
HHS will host non-conference rival Barrington, which won the Class 4A super-sectional match between the two teams last season, Sept. 20.
