Campanelli keeps records coming
HUNTLEY — From her opening tip-off effort, opponents may find an Anna Campanelli play like a blur, but Red Raider fans like her growing resume of hoops skills.
Campanelli set three personal scoring career highs in a four-game stretch. She scored 22 points against McHenry; then tallied 23 against Palatine and followed by a 24-point effort against Dundee-Crown in a 59-19 romp. Final scores were all routes for HHS – 65-11 over McHenry Jan. 10; 58-39 over Palatine Jan. 15 and 59-19 over Dundee-Crown Jan. 17. She scored 19 points in a 54-31 victory over Prairie Ridge Jan. 11.
A steal at half-court here, clearing a defensive rebound there, over 50 % shooting from the field and an occasional three-pointer are all in Campanelli’s skill set.
“Anna has had a great stretch for us,” HHS coach Steve Raethz said. “She can score from all three levels. This year she has added a good mid-range jumper. She plays solid at both ends of the floor.”
In the 24-point contest against D-C at home Jan. 17, she scored 22 of those coming in the first half. Campanelli made 11 of 19 field goals, one of three from three-point range. She also had six steals and rebounds as well.
“I worked a lot on my strength and rebounds,” Campanelli said.
Huntley stood at 15-5 overall, league-leading 9-0 Fox Valley Conference after the win over D-C.
“It was a solid collective effort for our team to finish unbeaten in the first half of the FVC,” Raethz said. “But we know we have a couple of tough tests coming up with Cary-Grove and Hampshire.”
The Red Raiders have many weapons as they seek another FVC title, starting with key clashes against Cary-Grove (12-8, 6-3) Jan. 19 and Hampshire (11-9, 6-1) on Jan. 24 here.
Sophomore Aubrina Adamik tallied eight points against D-C on two three-pointers and has has two recent double digit scoring games, led by 17 points against McHenry.
“Aubrina has stepped in after we had some injuries and has done a solid job,” Raethz said.
Sophomore Isabella Boskey comes off the bench and tallied eight points against D-C. Substitutes got some fourth quarter playing time against the Chargers and sophomore Gwen Campbell tallied eight points.
