McHenry County State’s Attorney drops out of reelection for 2024
MCHENRY COUNTY—In a sudden turn of events, on April 23, current McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally, announced in a press release statement that he has decided to remove himself from running for reelection for the November 2024 General Election race.
“I will leave the office at the end of my term, Nov. 30, 2024,” stated Kenneally. “I love the job and will carry with me an abiding sense of gratitude for having had the opportunity to represent the wonderful people of McHenry County.”
Kenneally, a Republican who has served in the role as McHenry County State’s Attorney since 2016, added that he came to the decision following “protracted conversations” with his family and friends and having “taken stock of the life’s immediate challenges, which include raising four young children and caring for two ailing parents.”
In his statement, Kenneally concluded that he feels that he can no longer commit to undertaking the role of the McHenry County State’s Attorney for four more years with the same level of vigor that he has endeavored to devote over the last eight years in office.
“I believe that McHenry County has the best state’s attorney’s office in Illinois. An office that is overflowing with talented lawyers who also happen to be wonderful people. An office that is well-equipped to effectively serve residents and crime victims over the period of transition to come,” said Kenneally.
He continued, “The only thing that has made the lead-heavy burden of this decision bearable is that there is someone of unassailable character and talent who has decided to seek the approval of the Republican Party in filling my vacancy as candidate. A person who, if fortunate enough to be nominated and elected, will do truly great things.”
There has been no further mention on who the individual is that will attempt to fill in for the new vacancy in the 2024 elections.
