Coach’s Park ribbon cutting held
HUNTLEY — The Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce and Huntley Park District held a ribbon cutting ceremony May 14 at the new Coach’s Park in the Cider Grove subdivision, where the park is located.
According to a Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce press release, there were many public officials and residents who attended the event, including representatives from the Huntley Village Board of Trustees, the Huntley Park District Board and park staff.
Coach’s Park is a tribute to the many dedicated coaches who have generously dedicated their time and experience in the community. A notable feature of this park is its commemorative brick pathway, where individuals can purchase bricks to honor their beloved coaches. These bricks may be inscribed with the names of coaches, serving as a lasting dedication and a token gratitude for their contributions.
The ceremony included a special moment of recognition for two families who have made significant impacts on the community. Chris Pacana and Larry Cariato, both local volunteer coaches and park district staff members, who have passed away in the last few years were honored. Their families were present and took part in the ceremony.
Their zest for sports and life were also honored at the recent Inaugural Chris Pacana Memorial 3on3 Youth Basketball Tournament.
“An electrician by day, Cariato was truly an avid sports fan and played football, basketball, softball, and volleyball. Over time, Cariato became well known in our community for his commitment and involvement with youth athletics,” Julie Kowacyzyn, HPD Director of Recreation said. “Throughout his coaching career, Cariato was involved with the Huntley Youth Football, Huntley Little League and Huntley Park District. His values were always passion, growth and respect.”
Huntley Park District Executive Director Scott Crowe commented on the Coach’s Park dedication.
“We are thrilled to open Coach’s Park and to honor the incredible coaches who have made a difference in our community,” Crowe said in the press release statement. “This park is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and we are grateful for everyone who joined us in this special occasion.”
