Family displaced by house fire continue to search for missing cat
HUNTLEY — On Oct. 13 at approximately 5:52 p.m., the Huntley Fire Protection District responded to a call at the 10900 block of Heartland Lane in the Wing Pointe subdivision for a report of a structure fire.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames had engulfed the rear end of the home. Heavy winds that day accelerated the fire’s intensity causing flames to spread quickly into the attic. Despite the situation being under control within 20 minutes, fire officials deemed the home uninhabitable.
While everyone made it out of the home safely, a friend of the homeowners, Michelle Rankin, stated that the family was still in search of their cat.
“His name is Mac. We think he got out of the house during the commotion,” stated Rankin via a Facebook post. “He is microchipped and his legal name is Sting but answers to Mac.”
Community members have been vigilant in searching for the missing pet, but in the meantime, are also willing to offer some assistance to the family by offering help in any capacity.
Mike Brannan, a member of the family who was affected by the house fire, shared his thoughts on the outpour of support from neighbors.
“I want to thank everyone for all their support and prayers. At the moment we are processing everything. We are working on a list of items that we might need and will get that list to Michelle (Rankin),” said Brannan via Facebook. “Thank you again for all the love and support. We are blessed to have a community like ours.”
