Fresh off big TD, Pope looks back

Pope answered questions about his football career before a senior night clash with Burlington Central on Oct. 25.
How has the Class of 2025 players stayed together so long?
Pope: “I personally came from a different youth program than Huntley, but freshman year I was welcomed into the Huntley brotherhood. We’ve grown significantly throughout high school and every year we as brothers have become closer and closer.”
Describe your youth football career.
Pope: “In youth football I played left tackle, middle linebacker, and fullback. I was blessed to have a great coach coach Klimas at Palatine who taught me all of the fundamentals of football. Throughout middle school, I also played rugby in the spring which I like to think helped me significantly in football.”
Which NFL team or individual player do you admire?
Pope: “I’m a big Bears fan and I love to study and watch Montez Sweat and (former Bear) Khalil Mack.”
What is the toughest part about your positions?
Pope: “At defensive end the hardest thing for me has to be the difference in size compared to some offensive linemen. I stand at 6′ 225 whereas the guys I go against are typically four to five inches taller and have 50 pounds on me. I manage to beat them using the technique taught to me as well as my quickness on the field.”
Any interests outside of sports?
Pope: “Outside of football I own a car detailing business.”
What part of high school football will you miss the most, college selection?
Pope” “Out of everything will miss the guys around me the most, I love every guy who plays on this team. After high school I’m playing football at North Central College.”
How challenging has it been to play offense and defense?
Pope: “I’ve played both sides of the ball multiple games when needed. If the team needs it, I am more than willing to step up for the offense when called upon.”
