Huntley Park District issues statement on community passing bond referendum request
HUNTLEY—As previously reported in My Huntley News, the Huntley Park District (HPD) announced that it was requesting an $18 million bond referendum on the Nov. 5 ballot in McHenry and Kane counties.
In a recent statement made by the park district, it was revealed that many residents who reside within its boundaries answered “yes” to the bond referendum request to raise revenue to improve, equip, and maintain parks and facilities including the renovation and addition of new amenities and playgrounds at several district parks.
The resident-identified projects that will be funded through the bond include updating and improving the following: Deicke Park and Tomaso Sports Park, the REC Center, accessibility at parks and facilities, Pinecrest Golf Course, Borhart, Ruth Ol’Timers, and Parisek parks.
With the bond, the HPD also hopes to purchase new land for future park district use and to add new amenities. Residents can look forward to the possibility of the HPD adding pickleball, tennis, and basketball courts, outdoor fitness equipment, golf entertainment, artificial turf ballfields and batting cages, paved trails and shade trees, a splash pad to Stingray Bay, and amenities to Dog Park amenities at Regency Square.
In addition, the park district also wants to develop a vacant lot in the Talamore subdivision into a park.
“Our residents have been integral to this process from the beginning,” said President of the HPD Board of Commissioners Keith Wold. “Their feedback during our Strategic Master Plan process in 2022 and 2023, and through surveys and discussion groups directly shaped these projects, and it was essential that residents have the final decision.”
The park district will begin planning and start contractor interviews as early as spring 2025.
“We’re thrilled to bring this shared vision to life,” said Executive Director for the HPD Scott Crowe. “This is their vision, and we will continue to engage with residents as we refine designs and finalize project details.”
Regular updates will be posted to the website www.huntleyparks.org/plantoplay and on the HPD’s social media pages.
