
Eight players earn all-FVC football team
HUNTLEY — The All-Fox Valley Conference 2024 football team, selected by the league’s head coaches, was announced and eight Huntley players.
The eight Red Raiders selections were: senior quarterback Braylon Bower; junior wide receiver Wyatt Fleck; senior offensive and defensive lineman Carter Pope; junior defensive lineman Mason Maldonado; senior offensive lineman Kelley Gassner; senior linebacker Charles Condon III; junior offensive and defensive lineman Ryan Wabel and senior wide receiver Jordan Oruche.
The Red Raiders finished 5-4 FVC, 5-5 overall. Head coach Mike Naymola’s team made the Class 8A playoffs for the third straight season. West Aurora handed Huntley a 31-21 first round playoff loss on Nov. 1. Huntley’s wins came over Crystal Lake Central, McHenry, Jacobs, Hampshire, Crystal Lake South and Dundee-Crown.
Cary-Grove went undefeated in the FVC, 9-0, and carried the league banner to the Class 6A State Semifinal, but lost to Geneva, 28-26.
A look at some outstanding statistics compiled by the All-FVC members from Huntley:
Bower was a force both throwing and rushing this season. He had 143 completions in 233 attempts, for 15 touchdowns and a 61.4 percent completion rate. Bower, in his second year as signal caller, also had 133 rush attempts, 720 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Fleck was his top receiver with 48 catches for 622 yards and eight touchdowns. Oruche was close behind with 44 receptions for 550 yards and five touchdowns.
Condon led in solo tackles with 45 solo tackles, 10 assists, five tackles for loss, one sack and one interception.
Pope contributed 25 solo tackles, five assists, four tackles for loss, three sacks, one fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown.
Maldonado had 29 solo tackles, 10 assists, seven tackles for loss, two sacks and one forced fumble. Waybel had 11 solo tackles and two assists.

On offense, senior running back Reichen Dvorak rushed 130 times for 620 yards and eight touchdowns.
Senior running back Ari Fiebig had 35 carries for 315 yards and two touchdowns. He was a leader on defense at defensive back as well, with 34 solo tackles, 10 assists, one tackle for loss and two interceptions.
Senior wide receiver and tight end Colin Hochmuth contributed 22 receptions for 201 yards.
Defensively, senior Colin Masten, a defensive back, had a solid season with 29 solo tackles, six assists and two tackles for loss. Junior defensive back Collin Kalemba pitched in 29 solo tackles, 13 assists, one forced fumble and one recovered fumble. Sophomore linebacker Ethan Albertson had 28 tackles, 19 assists, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
