
7 senior boys leaders end home meets
HUNTLEY — With one perfect game score and another league individual league title winner, a group of seven boys bowling leaders have shown the way to success.
The team’s senior day was held Jan. 7 at Bowl-Hi Lanes when they faced Harvard. The Class of 2025 Red Raiders bowlers – Matthew Fishman, Austin Tenglin, Joe Humphrey, Nicholas Gaspari, Landen Conforti, Ryan Morahan and Mason Quarrie, were honored.
Huntley took a season lead into the Kishwaukee River Conference-Fox Valley Conference tournament, Jan. 10 at Kingston Lanes in Woodstock.
The squad was determined to end the league duals on a winning note, after a close loss to Woodstock the night before. Led by Humphrey’s 749 series and 278 best game, the Red Raiders prevailed, 3,707 pins to 2,677. Sophomore Noah Waters was next with a 619, followed by Gaspari’s 602 and Fishman’s 601. Conforti had a 580 and Tenglin 556. Huntley ended the regular season 13-1 in duals and 117 KRC-FVC points. Waters had the team’s perfect game score of 300 this season.
“The boys were ready to rock against Harvard, after a hard fought loss Monday against Woodstock,” Huntley coach Jacob Wagner said. “Humphrey had a 749 series which was awesome to watch.”
The Red Raiders lost to Woodstock, 3,732 to 3,682 pins. Humphrey had a 749 series, with a 279 best game Jan. 6. His season best game was a 287. Fishman followed Humphrey with a 682 series while Gaspari rolled a 673 followed by Conforti, 601 and Tenglin had a 476.
Senior night
Wagner commented on contributions of the senior bowlers.
About Tenglin: “He is a four-year varsity bowler, two years as team captain. He has been a great leader for the young guys and for our varsity. He has a 200 (game) average over the last three years,” Wagner said.
About Fishman: “He is a three-year varsity bowler, two years as team captain. He works with youth and young guys at bowling practice, is defending KRC-FVC champion and has a 220 average,” Wagner said.
About Humphrey: “He is senior anchor bowler, and senior captain. He has placed in multiple events senior year, leading the team in spare percentage. He has a 210 average,” Wagner said.
About Gaspari: “He won his first tournament this year as an individual, recorded a 300 (perfect game) in a dual meet as a junior, and is a two-year varsity bowler. He has a 190 average,” Wagner said.
About Conforti: “He is a two-year varsity bowler. He helps young guys a ton. He is also active in Snow Raiders and band. He is on the cusp of a 200 average,” Wagner said.
About Morahan: “He is a four-year bowler for us. He averaged 20 pins higher this year than the previous three years. He is always winning to bowl,” Wagner said.
About Quarrie: “He is a four-year bowler for us. Great teammate to the younger bowlers. Always willing to bowl,” Wagner stated.
KRC-FVC tournament preview
“Tenglin, Fishman and Humphrey all will be in he running for top 10 in conference as well as Waters,” Wagner said. “We will be competing to defend our conference championship from last year and have put ourselves in great shape to do that. Looking forward to a great tournament and to see all the other teams and coaches. Our conference bowlers all seem to get along well and bring out the best in each other.”
The Red Raiders finished second with a 6,273 pins total at Mid-States Tournament in Peoria Dec. 28. Gaspari edged Fishman, 1,386 to 1,382 pins for first place. Waters ended with 1,200 for 32nd place. Also, Tenglin was 38th, with a 1,183 total. Humphrey had 1,120 pins for 54th.
“Gaspari and Fishman both threw it great at Mid-States, helping us to second place finish behind a very tough Machesney Park Harlem team,” Wagner said.
Post-season
The IHSA has announced regional assignments for boys bowling. Huntley will compete at Glo-Bowl in Marengo, for the regional tournament Jan. 18. Qualifiers move on to the Oregon sectional Jan. 24.
