Illinois Rep Daniel Ugaste hosts town hall

HUNTLEY - Illinois State District 65 Representative Daniel Ugaste (R) paid a visit to Sun City on Monday, November 1, for a Town Hall meeting in the Fountain View lodge. Approximately 35 Sun City residents attended.

Representative Ugaste was originally elected in 2018 and reelected in 2020. He commented that, “I may be mapped out of Huntley in the next election.” He explained that, “the new District 65 northern boundary might be Bowes Road in Elgin.”

He reported that Illinois was one of three states to lose population since the 2010 census count.

Village President Hoeft and Village Manager Johnson attend Sun City Town Hall

The Birch Room in the Fountain View portion of the Prairie Lodge was filled to capacity for the Town Hall with Huntley Village President Timothy Hoeft and Village Manager Dave Johnson.

The duo spent more than 90 minutes with a presentation and fielding questions from the Sun City residents.

In his opening remarks, President Hoeft stated that, “we do plan for everything we do” for the Village.

Johnson used a PowerPoint presentation to give visual support to his presentation. He pointed out that “the Village population has grown from 5,730 in 2000 to more than 29,560 in 2020.

Village manager confirms new Huntley residences are on the way

HUNTLEY - Huntley Village Manager, David Johnson, said that “the Cider Grove subdivision will be adding 180 new single-family homes.”

The subdivision, which is located on Dundee Road, due north of St. Mary Church, was built by D. R. Horton construction. The next phase of Cider Grove will cover 43 acres.

R. Horton was founded in 1978 in Fort Worth, Texas. They claim to be America’s largest home builder having built more than 850,000 homes in 30 states.

Harry Leopold, Village Trustee, reports that “there is a new development of single-family houses on the Kudlach property which is bounded by Main and Huntley/Dundee to the north and south and Haligus and Ruth to the east and west.”

St. Mary’s discusses new cemetery lot with Village

HUNTLEY - St. Mary Church has approached the Village of Huntley with a proposal for a new parish cemetery on the church’s property between Kreutzer and Dundee Roads.

The proposed cemetery would use the vacant 2.45 acres that is adjacent to the south end of the church buildings. The cemetery would have 1,530 gravesites and 572 Columbarium Niches. Eighty-six infant graves would be included.

In addition, the church is in discussions to purchase 12.75 acres of the old Kreutzer Farm. This parcel is immediately to the east of the church property.

Rutland Township holds special meeting to fill open positions

HUNTLEY - The saga involving the Rutland Township Board of Trustees continued on Tuesday, September 24, with a special meeting called to appoint a new Township Supervisor and two new Trustees.

The fifteen residents in attendance were fewer than half of the attendees at the regular Board of Trustees meeting that was held on September 14. This special meeting had a 48-hour advance notification, which is all that was required by State laws.

Once Deputy Supervisor Janet Siers opened the meeting for public comment she recognized Adeline Lewis, a township activist.

Rutland Township issues create unrest

HUNTLEY - The Rutland Township issue reached boiling point at the latest board meeting, but the debate began over the summer.

Jan Siers is a 50-year resident of Rutland Township. She was appointed Trustee in May, 2021 as the board was short one Trustee. Her term expires in 2025.

Ronda Goldman is a Sun City resident and Village of Huntley Trustee, which she has been since 2013. Her term also expires in May 2025.

Goldman is alleging multiple issues with the Township Board’s operation.

Regency Square rezoning creates controversy near Sun City

HUNTLEY - Is there something wrong with this picture? The 48-acre site known as Regency Square is owned by BO2 Investments, LLC. Village Trustee Niko Kanakaris has a 25% interest in BO2. BO2 has plans to sell the property to an unnamed contractor who has plans for a multi-family development in the space. The development would include single family homes, townhomes and rental apartments.

The implementation of this planned development is blocked by the current zoning of the property. Presently 30 acres are zoned “BP” for Business Park and the remaining acres are zoned “C2” commercial.

PROPERTY TAX COLLECTION CHANGES

HUNTLEY - With a stroke of the pen, governor JB Pritzker will change the property tax assessment landscape in the state of Illinois.

A vocal opponent to Senate Bill 508, Andrea Raila, a long-time property tax appeals specialist, said in an interview, “If this bill is signed by the governor, it will be the worst property tax shift in decades.”

The new legislation addresses the property assessment appeals process. Opponents don’t believe it needs changing. Proponents believe that the old law penalizes local taxing districts.

Kane County polling location change in Sun City sparks controversy [Updated]

“The Natives are Restless” wrote H. G. Wells in 1933 for ‘The Island of Doctor Moreau.’ The same could be true today of the residents of Sun City in reaction to the Sun City Board of Directors vote on the future of the Kane County polling site in the Prairie Lodge.

The Board of Directors, in a 4 to 3 vote at the March 24th Board meeting, decided to not renew the polling place agreement with the Kane County Board of Elections.
