Pat Ullrich, Emergency Responses and Preparedness Manager for the police department and Philip Adams, public education and community outreach for Huntley Fire Protection District, gave presentations. They discussed understanding risk categories of various severe weather events, from marginal to high, according to NWS information.

The seasonal maintenance will continue through March 31 at the cemetery, located at 11500 Dean Street, the east side, and 11503 Dean Street, the west side.

"Decorations that remain in place after March 15 will be removed by the Village of Huntley," the notice states. "Spring decorations may be placed on the grave sites starting April 1 and must conform to the Code of Ordinances or they will be removed.

The Firestarters Group LLC, doing business as The Irie Cup has requested a grant in the amount of $9,274.32 to off-set some of the leasehold improvements at the 11805 Main Street location for their new store. The grant request was reviewed at the February 23 Village Board meeting.

Thomas and “A View from Two Benches” author Doug Feldmann, an Algonquin native spoke about the book and Thomas’s career to the group at Huntley Public Library March 4.

Thomas told of the bright spots of his 10-year NFL career with the Bears, which included a field goal for an overtime win over the New York Giants the week before Christmas in 1977.

The HHS Jazz Combo performed while several Black owned businesses shared their products and stories. Historically significant art of important Black difference RAD in America were shown Feb. 24 at HHS.

"We started working on it at RAD three months ago with our student group," RAD teacher co-leader Shaina Pocztowski said. Pocztowski brought her two children, Emerson, and Cooper, who wore their RAD wear.

All three departments will have teams in the SOILL Polar Plunge Saturday, March 4. The site is at Carpentersville's Public Works facility, 1075 Tamarac Drive, from 10 a.m. to noon.

"We have participated in Polar Plunge for many years," Algonquin Police Chief Dennis Walker said. "In addition to the Polar Plunge, they have raffles and games.

What happened next was anything but routine. His daughter and wife, Bianca and Adocia, helped save Spann's life using CPR. (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).

"She wasn't nervous at all," Spann said of the Oct. 4, 2021 incident. "My daughter Bianca  and my wife Adonica were so calm as when she called 911. As a military veteran, I had trained my wife and daughter in CPR and First Aide."

The 5Essentials survey will be distributed to all parents-guardians students and teachers, according to the District 158 web site. The 5Essentials survey is a statewide effort by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to "gauge school climate and learning conditions in Illinois schools. The survey will be administered online by the University of Chicago Impact  and provides a unique opportunity for students, teachers and parents to have a voice in improving their schools."

Officer Matthew Hunter, who joined the Algonquin Police Department May 4, 2021, had just received CPR training the day before, Sept. 30, the incident from Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Department Battalion  Chief Matthew Berg. The successful use of CPR training helped save the life of a 17 month old toddler who had an incident at a business.

On Monday, Feb. 13, Lou Malnati’s Lakewood will donate 20% of all sales between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. to the Historical Society.

Donna Britton, a Board Member of the Historical Society, says the organization currently leases the farmhouse on Sun Valley Farm from the Park District, and plans to eventually turn the house into a museum by bringing the structure up to code without sacrificing its style and charm as a farmhouse.

"I am sharing this message today in an effort to remind our students and families about some important guidelines Huntley District 158 has in place to keep our buildings and school buses safe," the message begins.

"In recent weeks, the District has dealt with numerous instances of non-threatening weapons being brought to school grounds, including pocket knives, toy guns and even handmade items which have been fashioned to look like a weapon,” the statement reads.

“We have a wide range of services, from aqua therapy to cognitive behavior therapy, and a very nice turnout,” District 158 event coordinator Jill Shadel said. “We have been working on it for about a month after there was a similar event before school started just for educators.”

Shidel said much has changed in regards to perception of addressing mental health needs.

The Algonquin Police Department press release states this class is mandated by the State of Illinois for anyone who provides on-premise alcohol service, such as bars, restaurants, etc. and those required to check identification for alcohol service.

DeYoungis one of 127 teachers across the state of Illinois to certify and one of the 336 teachers to re-certify as an NBCT, according to a Diatrict 158 press release.

"I originally was certified 10 years ago and we had to renew for a five-year renewal," DeYoung said. "The first time for NBCT, I took classes and had a mentor teacher.

According to a press release, the study was conducted in 41 hospitals across 18 countries. Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital were among the hospitals included in the study.

To evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 Omicron variant on maternal and neonatal outcomes, the researchers studied 1,545 pregnant women diagnosed with the Omicron variant and 3,073 non-diagnosed, concomitant pregnant women as control subjects.

As residents may recall, on Jan. 3, Manny’s Gelato and Café owner Manny Stier announced via the café’s Facebook page that he would be closing his establishment for business on Jan. 15.

Deputy Village Manager Lisa Armour told trustees during the Jan. 12 meeting that Chris and Barb Lincoln, owners of the Lincoln Farmstead (8401 IL-47, Huntley), are contracted purchasers of the building that housed Manny’s Gelato and Café (11808 Main Street).

Café owner, Manny Stier, did not state a specific reason as to why he decided to close his establishment, only citing that it was to “start a new journey.”

Manny’s Gelato and Café first opened for business back on Jan. 30, 2017, where locals praised its authentic blend of unique and freshly made Italian gelato flavors as well as its expansive selection of various food and drink items.

According to Kane County’s State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser, over the past year, various members of the Kane County Judicial Partners, led by Kane County Chief Judge Clint Hull, have been working together daily to be ready for the new law to take effect.

Within the agreement, Coral Street Firehouse was required to complete the exterior shell of the building by Dec. 31, or else they would be fined associated liquidated damages of $100 per day until the shell is completed.

Her body was taken by the Kane County Coroner’s Office, where they performed an autopsy on Dec. 7. It was determined that the preliminary cause of death was drowning, however, toxicology results are still pending.

As news about Koerner’s death spread, her cousin, Brian Fata, worked to set up a GoFundMe to assist her family with any expenses they may face moving forward.
