Dundee Crown High School theatre program hopes to raise enough funds to perform at the University of Illinois Theatre Festival
On Nov. 18, students from the Dundee Crown High School (DCHS) theatre program received the news that Illinois Theatre Association representatives witnessed their most recent production of the murder mystery comedy Deadline and wanted the cast of the school’s play to perform the show at the university’s Theatre Festival in January.
Marlowe ceremony salutes all veterans
Students, school staff and veterans’ family members gathered for breakfast and a Veterans Day salute, all said, in various ways, “Thank you, Veterans.”
“It’s my favorite day of the school year,” Karey Miller, faculty advisor for Marlowe’s Student Service Club, said. “The students ask a lot of great questions, and some have their grandparents or parents here. They learn how to meet veterans, shake their hands and thank them for their service.”
Post 673 ceremony praises veterans
“We may not know them all, but we owe them all,” is one of the mottos which applies to the Saturday event.
American Legion Post 673 Commander Mike Stojak explained to a gathering that the Legion organized in 1920 after World War I ended.

The event will feature remarks from JBSS board members and staff, local village officials, and members of the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and Chamber Ambassadors. The ribbon cutting will mark the official opening of the facility, highlighting JBSS’s continued growth.

Youngsters will also have a chance to participate in the Village of Huntley Halloween event, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Oct. 31 at Huntley Town Square.

Participants can choose from two ticket options—$30 for the alcohol option and $22 for the non-alcohol option—which include: seven unique breakfast items from local restaurants (pancake, donut, breakfast sandwich, bacon, homemade muffin, fruit, and granola bar).
59 ponies rescued from hoarding situation by local horse rescue
The ponies were discovered on a 30-acre property that was littered with horse skeleton remains. Not only was there no access to clean water or proper shelter for the ponies, HAHS Executive Director Cynthia Glensgard told My Huntley News that pregnant mares, foals, yearlings, and stallions were also crowded together with an alarming number of dogs who had reportedly eaten foals as the mares were birthing them.
Farmers Market offers outdoor fun finale
“I participate in the year-round market,” Workowski, who lives in rural Marengo, and is a Huntley High School alum, said. “You look forward to it.”
He brings all wildflower honey in various sizes.
“The bees seal it in hives and you have to extricate it from them,” Workowski said. “We also have jams, pickles, and salsa beets.”
The final outdoor Farmer’s Market will take place from 8 a.m.
First responders give tips on handling emergencies
First responders at the session were from the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, Huntley Area Fire Protection District (HAFPD), Algonquin Police Department and Southeast Emergency Communications. Classic car owners enjoy Huntley show
Freemasons of Illinois’ McHenry County members organized the car show at Sew Hop’D Brewery and Tap Room’s parking lot in Huntley. A total of 99 vehicles were on display Sept. 14.
“I helped co-found the car show, and we also have one in the spring in Cary,” Freemason car show organizer Matthew Smok of Crystal Lake said. “Funds go to support the four or five scholarships we award each year.”

Huntley Area Public Library officially debuts its highly anticipated recording studio
The theme for National Library Sign-Up Month is “Creative Minds: Discover the Endless Opportunities of Creativity,” which aims to explore all the ways individuals can be creative through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) based programs and services that are available with a HAPL card.
The official launch of the HAPL recording studio is the main highlight of the library’s campaign this month and is designed to empower the community’s creativity by providing professional-grade equipment and software for all levels of creators-from budding podcasters to experienced musicians.
