As previously reported, the idea for the co-op was first conceived in 2014 by an organized collective of McHenry County residents that calls itself the McHenry County Food Cooperative. A groundbreaking ceremony was held last July to celebrate the initial construction phase of the grocery store.

Members of the public are invited by the Food Shed Co-op Board of Directors to celebrate the opening of the grocery store, which will feature brief remarks by co-op and community leaders, a symbolic ribbon-cutting, giveaways, and door-buster deals, according to a press release statement.

According to Huntley Community School District 158’s Director of Communications and Public Engagement, Denise Barr, the partnership is with First Institute of Crystal Lake, and the program is being offered to students interested in fast-tracking their medical careers.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics states that medical assisting is one of the fastest-growing careers in the country.

Area teams – Kaneland, Jacobs, Hampshire, Burlington Central and Lake Zurich, gathered to compete at Huntley's Field House one more time before heading outside, but more importantly, saluted a legendary coach.

Popenfoose, aka “Coach Pop” and the great memories was evident through the classic rock songs playing, the t-shirt with his picture and one of his favorite characters – big foot.

Irwin’s friend had just witnessed a dog being thrown out of a moving vehicle on Lake Cook Road in Barrington. The terrified canine was a six-month-old female American Staffordshire Terrier that Irwin ended up adopting after the dog was treated for its injuries at a local vet.

As previously reported, Kilian was diagnosed with cancer back in January 2023. His rapid decline in health and other complications relating to the disease eventually resulted in Kilian having to stop all treatment regimes in January of this year. On March 4, Kilian received the devastating news that the cancer was terminal.

According to his obituary, Kilian spent the remainder of his life at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington, where he was surrounded by his family.

The scholarship was created by Festival patron Craig Sutter in memory of his mother, G. Jean Sutter, and his father, H. Everett Sutter. The Sutter Family Shakespeare Scholarship provides support for a student majoring in acting at Illinois State University and provides recipients with an academic scholarship award of $500 per semester for three years—amounting to $3,000 total.

HHS Class of 2025 member Kylie Kachan was surprised with a $40,000 Big Future Scholarship by College Board representatives. A small gathering took place at Huntley High School Principal Dr. Marcus Belin's office where Kochan was presented the check. Kochan is the daughter of Krystie and Gary Kachan of Huntley, who were on hand for the ceremony.

Through this program, two $40,000 and hundreds of $500 scholarships, which totaled more than $3 million in 2022, are awarded each month.

Locally, the St. Baldrick's Foundation effort is known as “Battle of the Bald” as teams try and out fund-raise each other. In addition to Marlowe's event March 1, another session was held the next day at Pinecrest Golf Club.

“We have about 40 people signed up this year,” organizer Sean Cratty said. “St. Baldrick's is in its 25th year and 10th year here.

According to the Feb. 22 Village Board meeting agenda packet, the site, which is currently zoned “M” Manufacturing District, is located at the northeast corner of Smith Drive (west) and Kreutzer Road. Currently, the anticipated primary tenant for the proposed new structure has been announced as Voxline, LLC.

According to authorities at the time, her body was fully clothed and in a reclined position. Investigators revealed that not only had Charneco been strangled to death, but she was also four months pregnant with her first child.

According to a press release by the district’s Director of Communications and Public Engagement Denise Barr, Lombard is the first female superintendent to serve at D158. Before having been approved as the interim superintendent, Lombard’s role was as the district’s associate superintendent, a position she held for five years.

During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the only way many food establishments thrived was through drive-thrus since indoor seating areas were shut down. According to a CNN article, drive-thru sales hit $133 billion in 2022, which was reported as a 30% increase from 2019 pre-pandemic levels.

The fundraiser, led by social studies teacher Brad Aney and Red Raider Nation students, raised approximately $2,600 to support the Grafton Township Food Pantry.

According to a District 158 press release statement, funds were raised through the sale of more than 500 rubber ducks, purchased by parents, staff and community members. Participants were invited to throw the ducks onto the basketball court at halftime of the boys' game.

Local community leaders and field experts will discuss the critical issues surrounding trafficking and exploitation. Individuals who attend the event will learn about myths versus the realities of human trafficking, risk factors and indicators, as well as learn information on how to help victims.

According to the WGA, the Evans scholarships, awarded to high school seniors, are valued at an estimated $125,000 over four years. Also gaining scholarships as CLCC caddies were Caleb Ramirez from Cary (Cary-Grove High School) and Sean Radden from Crystal Lake (Crystal Lake South High School).

“My family is spread over three states and this grandma just wants to spend more time with my kids and grandkids. I have worked for municipalities for about 28 years and full-time totally for 44 years — it is time,” Read told My Huntley News.

Read first began working as the permit coordinator for Huntley, however, in January 2007, she utilized her prior experience working in planning departments at other villages to move to the position of management assistant for Huntley’s Village Manager’s Office.

Some local football experts may scramble for teams, other surveyed prior to the playoffs already had rooting interests lined up. Top teams from the AFC and NFC are the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, who have the Wildcard Weekend off.
