Oct. 31 marked the 60th anniversary of HB708 which was passed in 1965 and enabled the creation of mental health boards to carry out the provisions under HB708—also known as the Community Mental Health Act (CMHA).

Following the introduction of the CMHA, voters of McHenry County passed a referendum in 1967 to establish the McHenry County Mental Health Board which has since provided funding for mental health, substance use disorders, and intellectual/developmental disabilities.

This season, Willis is a freshman contributing to the McHenry County College Scots, a junior college power building for another run at the NJCAA Volleyball National Tournament. MCC, under the direction of Kyle McCall, finished ninth at the Cedar Rapids, Iowa nationals.

According to a District 158 press release, a record number of 3,300 participants, staff, parents, students and community members, have registered for this year's event and more than $53,000 has been secured in sponsorships. The Hootenanny event will take place rain or shine and there will be no on-site registration. The 5K will start promptly at 7:15 p.m.

The project, which they have named “World of Wonders,” will guide guests through different biomes, or areas that are classified according to the species of animal that live in that location.

According to the Randall Oaks Zoo website, the biomes will be expected to immerse individuals in grasslands, forests, and deserts. The project will allow the zoo to have more animals on exhibit and allow the zoo to operate year-round.

Lucas Gidelski, a sophomore, has been battling T-cell Lymphoblastic Cancer and is this year's Champions for Cures Champion.

“It was amazing, the support we have received from the community,” mom Kandice Gidelski said of the support Aug. 18. “Lucas was there in the stands with his sophomore football team buddies. He can watch from the sidelines this year if he wishes.”

The ceremony was held in Washington D.C. where D158 was among 26 schools, 11 districts, and four postsecondary institutions that were honored for their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education, as previously reported in My Huntley News.

A total of 35 teams competed with 24 sponsors supporting the event. The cash winning teams were finishing in first place, Stranger Flings, Josh Bullock and Pete Thayer and for second place, the Good Guys, Tony Flood and Jeremy Banner.

“The event was very successful,” Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nancy Binger said.

Students attending preschool in the Early Childhood Center (ECC) and those in kindergarten were welcomed back on Aug. 17.

The district announced its excitement to welcome students back via its Facebook page, while also reminding family members that some delays in pick-up and drop-off times for those that take the bus should be anticipated for the remainder of the week.

“We both teach physical education, but can go through a day when we don't even see each other,” football head coach Mike Naymola said.

“Fall is a crazy time, but we get it both being head coaches,” volleyball head coach Karen Naymola said.

The Naymolas have three daughters, Abbigail is a sophomore while Elizabeth is a freshman and Kylie is in seventh grade.
