Lucas Gidelski, a sophomore, has been battling T-cell Lymphoblastic Cancer and is this year's Champions for Cures Champion.

“It was amazing, the support we have received from the community,” mom Kandice Gidelski said of the support Aug. 18. “Lucas was there in the stands with his sophomore football team buddies. He can watch from the sidelines this year if he wishes.”

The Braasches struggled with infertility for seven years before happily conceiving after an IVF procedure in 2021.

The ceremony was held in Washington D.C. where D158 was among 26 schools, 11 districts, and four postsecondary institutions that were honored for their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education, as previously reported in My Huntley News.

A total of 35 teams competed with 24 sponsors supporting the event. The cash winning teams were finishing in first place, Stranger Flings, Josh Bullock and Pete Thayer and for second place, the Good Guys, Tony Flood and Jeremy Banner.

“The event was very successful,” Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nancy Binger said.

Students attending preschool in the Early Childhood Center (ECC) and those in kindergarten were welcomed back on Aug. 17.

The district announced its excitement to welcome students back via its Facebook page, while also reminding family members that some delays in pick-up and drop-off times for those that take the bus should be anticipated for the remainder of the week.

“We both teach physical education, but can go through a day when we don't even see each other,” football head coach Mike Naymola said.

“Fall is a crazy time, but we get it both being head coaches,” volleyball head coach Karen Naymola said.

The Naymolas have three daughters, Abbigail is a sophomore while Elizabeth is a freshman and Kylie is in seventh grade.

There will be giveaways, raffle prizes and cash awards for first and second place in the bags tournament.

Since its launch in May, Mobile Monday has rapidly become a beloved tradition, offering an array of food truck delights in the heart of the Huntley community,” Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nancy Binger said in a press release statement.

Times of the Mobile Mondays are 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at designated Chamber  businesses. The Mobile Mondays are open to the public.

GreenPal, a Nashville, Tennessee-based business, allows homeowners to find local, pre-screened lawn professionals by giving individuals the ability to list their lawn via the GreenPal website or app alongside their preferred service date and lawn care needs, according to GreenPal Co-Founder Gene Caballero.

Once a resident’s lawn is listed, GreenPal works to get that individual at least five grass-cutting bids from lawn maintenance vendors within 24 hours.

As many may recall on July 12, a severe weather alert was issued for Huntley and other nearby residential areas, however, none could have predicted that certain locations would be impacted by an EF-1 tornado, later confirmed by the National Weather Service.

Pam Palmer and Pam White were co-chairman of the event. The day included food and drink and music performances including the Huntley Jazz Combo. Lion Jim Worten won the Culvers of Huntley custard eating contest.

All funds generated from this event will go back 100 % to organizations and individuals needing assistance that fall under the Lions Club's main causes: sight and hearing needs; hunger; childhood cancer; diabetes awareness; environmental concerns; disaster relief and humanitarian needs.

When asked what moved him to start his street ministry in 2018, Unverzagt isn’t sure.

Attendees gathered around as Deputy John Wisniewski, K-9 officer Kylo and Dan Sobelki, of TOPS Dog Training in Grayslake put Kylo through his paces.

“We have three dogs on the force, and Kylo is the youngest,” Wisniewski said. “We use them for tracking, apprehension and area searches. The tracking is probably the most common thing.”

Lincoln House & Co., located at 11808 Main Street, is owned by Barb and Chris Lincoln, who also own the Lincoln Farmstead (8401 IL-47). The Lincolns proposed their new business venture at the Jan. 12 Village Board meeting after purchasing the property formally occupied by Manny’s Gelato and Café.

As previously reported, Lincoln House & Co. is a coffee and wine bar that specializes in coffee, wine, smoothies, salads, sandwiches, and other small plate offerings.

The co-op, as it's also referred to, will be located at 14506 US Highway 14 in southwest Woodstock, which will make it so that it’s located near McHenry County College as well as a few minutes north of Crystal Lake.

“It's a great event coming together with the community,” Porter said.

The NNO night also served as a fund-raiser for Illinois Special Olympics as participants could support and buy items.

James Williams, of Lake in the Hills, is an ambassador for Special Olympics and mentioned the area softball team qualified for the Illinois Special Olympics Games through its regional tournament.

The annual event is organized by the Village of Huntley, Police Department and volunteers. Officers and public works staff helped riders take the route safely. Trek Bicycle of Algonquin has been helping out for several years.

“We help by making sure everyone's bike tires are properly inflated,” owner Rob Sanders said.
