Winners crowned, Red Raiders victory at homecoming
HUNTLEY — “Huntley’s Disco Night” was the theme for Homecoming Week 2023.
Seniors Zach Rogers, left and Taylor Casey were named winners when Huntley’s homecoming court royalty was recognized at halftime of the Sept. 22 football game.
Court members were also: freshmen class Kaitlin Bower and Isabella Fulk; sophomore class Amani Herrera and Jeniah Slaughter; junior class Victor Adeoye and Braylon Bower; senior class Casey, Gabriel De La Paz, Vicky Evtimov, Zack Garifo, Jack Laughlin, Ashlyn Pauwels, Sophie Thompson and Zach Zuzzio.
Randall Oaks Zoo announces the construction of a new small animal facility
The project, which they have named “World of Wonders,” will guide guests through different biomes, or areas that are classified according to the species of animal that live in that location.
According to the Randall Oaks Zoo website, the biomes will be expected to immerse individuals in grasslands, forests, and deserts. The project will allow the zoo to have more animals on exhibit and allow the zoo to operate year-round.
HHS backs student battling cancer
Lucas Gidelski, a sophomore, has been battling T-cell Lymphoblastic Cancer and is this year’s Champions for Cures Champion.
“It was amazing, the support we have received from the community,” mom Kandice Gidelski said of the support Aug. 18. “Lucas was there in the stands with his sophomore football team buddies. He can watch from the sidelines this year if he wishes.”

D158 given the 2023 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School District Sustainability Award in Washington D.C.
The ceremony was held in Washington D.C. where D158 was among 26 schools, 11 districts, and four postsecondary institutions that were honored for their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and costs, promote better health, and ensure effective environmental education, as previously reported in My Huntley News.
Many try aim at bags toss tourney
A total of 35 teams competed with 24 sponsors supporting the event. The cash winning teams were finishing in first place, Stranger Flings, Josh Bullock and Pete Thayer and for second place, the Good Guys, Tony Flood and Jeremy Banner.
“The event was very successful,” Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nancy Binger said.
D158 welcomes students back for the 2023-24 school year
Students attending preschool in the Early Childhood Center (ECC) and those in kindergarten were welcomed back on Aug. 17.
The district announced its excitement to welcome students back via its Facebook page, while also reminding family members that some delays in pick-up and drop-off times for those that take the bus should be anticipated for the remainder of the week.
Naymolas all set to guide football, volleyball
“We both teach physical education, but can go through a day when we don’t even see each other,” football head coach Mike Naymola said.
“Fall is a crazy time, but we get it both being head coaches,” volleyball head coach Karen Naymola said.
The Naymolas have three daughters, Abbigail is a sophomore while Elizabeth is a freshman and Kylie is in seventh grade.

Mobile Mondays offer unique choice for lunch
Since its launch in May, Mobile Monday has rapidly become a beloved tradition, offering an array of food truck delights in the heart of the Huntley community,” Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Nancy Binger said in a press release statement.
Times of the Mobile Mondays are 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at designated Chamber businesses. The Mobile Mondays are open to the public.
Lawn mowing app that calls itself the ‘Uber for lawn care’ launches in Huntley
GreenPal, a Nashville, Tennessee-based business, allows homeowners to find local, pre-screened lawn professionals by giving individuals the ability to list their lawn via the GreenPal website or app alongside their preferred service date and lawn care needs, according to GreenPal Co-Founder Gene Caballero.
Once a resident’s lawn is listed, GreenPal works to get that individual at least five grass-cutting bids from lawn maintenance vendors within 24 hours.
Lincoln House & Co. holds grand opening
Huntley Mayor Tim Hoeft, village trustees and Chamber of Commerce members attended. Hoeft gave congratulatory comments. Co-owner Barb Lincoln said the opening for a month now, has gone well. The new business venture of Lincoln Family Farmstead has a staff of 12. The menu at Lincoln House $ Co.
Storage facility property manager highlights the importance of disaster response after being in a tornado impact zone
As many may recall on July 12, a severe weather alert was issued for Huntley and other nearby residential areas, however, none could have predicted that certain locations would be impacted by an EF-1 tornado, later confirmed by the National Weather Service.
Lions Club happy with fest turnout
Pam Palmer and Pam White were co-chairman of the event. The day included food and drink and music performances including the Huntley Jazz Combo. Lion Jim Worten won the Culvers of Huntley custard eating contest.
All funds generated from this event will go back 100 % to organizations and individuals needing assistance that fall under the Lions Club’s main causes: sight and hearing needs; hunger; childhood cancer; diabetes awareness; environmental concerns; disaster relief and humanitarian needs.

Sheriff’s K-9 unit gives demonstration
Attendees gathered around as Deputy John Wisniewski, K-9 officer Kylo and Dan Sobelki, of TOPS Dog Training in Grayslake put Kylo through his paces.
“We have three dogs on the force, and Kylo is the youngest,” Wisniewski said. “We use them for tracking, apprehension and area searches. The tracking is probably the most common thing.”

Ages of the fans ranged from 12-year-old Adrien Hernandez, who comes to meetings with his grandmother from Mundelein, to many in their 70s. Hernandez wore a former team star Chris Sale t-shirt this Monday and brought a front page of the Chicago Tribune from their squad’s last World Series title in 2005.
A look inside the new Lincoln House & Co. before its grand opening
Lincoln House & Co., located at 11808 Main Street, is owned by Barb and Chris Lincoln, who also own the Lincoln Farmstead (8401 IL-47). The Lincolns proposed their new business venture at the Jan. 12 Village Board meeting after purchasing the property formally occupied by Manny’s Gelato and Café.
As previously reported, Lincoln House & Co. is a coffee and wine bar that specializes in coffee, wine, smoothies, salads, sandwiches, and other small plate offerings.
McHenry County’s new community-owned grocery store to open soon
The co-op, as it’s also referred to, will be located at 14506 US Highway 14 in southwest Woodstock, which will make it so that it’s located near McHenry County College as well as a few minutes north of Crystal Lake.
