Back in May, the U.S. Department of Labor filed a complaint against the restaurant and its owners, asking the court to prevent the Tsakalios from interfering with the federal investigation into the employers’ pay practices.

Several minutes after the dispatch, a sheriff’s detective observed the suspect vehicle traveling west on I-90, near Tyrell Road. The detective reported that the vehicle was speeding and due to the high-risk possibility of the situation, he waited for assistance from the Illinois State Police before conducting a traffic stop.

Teams of students at Conley Elementary School (750 Dr. John Burkey Drive, Algonquin) and Martin Elementary School (10920 Reed Road, Lake in the Hills) each dedicated a part of a school day back in May to conduct audits, which were part of a collaboration between SGA’s Zero Waste Schools team and the district’s Food Service Director, Richard Reed.

The payout of $120,404 to Martam Construction for their work on the Eakin Creek Sanitary Interceptor Sewer at the Jim Dhamer-Illinois Route 47 intersection was approved. This was the first payout on the progress of the project.

Charles Nordman, Village Director of Development Services, presented the VenturePark 47 proposal for the construction of a 729,600 square foot industrial building at the Northwest corner of Illinois Route 47 and Jim Dhamer Blvd.

A 729,600 square foot speculative warehouse and distribution building on the northwest corner of the 44-acre site has been presented to the Huntley Planning commission. The building will be constructed by Venture One Real Estate. It might be divided into two tenant spaces if a sole tenant is not found. No users of the building have been identified.

As previously reported in My Huntley News, Henry Patel, owner and president of Woodstock Hotel, Inc., wrote a letter to village staff stating that delays caused by “subcontractor and equipment provider supply chain issues,” due to the pandemic were once again the reasons for their request of an additional extension of time.

According to the June 9 Board Meeting agenda packet, Rodriguez had purchased the property in late 2020 and had the intention of opening a second Antigua Mexican Grill location in Huntley, but ultimately decided to open a restaurant in Algonquin instead.

Floodwater mosquitoes, which deposit their eggs in low lying areas that are later flooded, typically emerge about 2 weeks after heavy rains and can be a major nuisance problem for several weeks. Floodwater mosquitoes are generally aggressive daytime biters.  However, floodwater mosquitoes have not been significant carriers of disease in Illinois.

West Nile virus in Illinois is primarily associated with the Culex species of mosquito which lay their eggs in warm, stagnant water with high organic content, particularly in artificial containers. 

Rainfall wasn’t enough to deter a large crowd of community members from gathering outside of the Huntley Area Public Library’s (HAPL) main entrance for its official ribbon-cutting ceremony that took place on June 8.

Nancy Binger, executive director for the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce, took center stage at the podium, describing the meaningful impact the HAPL has made on the community over the last 30 years.

“There has been a constant desire to improve and serve our multi-generation population and we are witnessing and celebrating that today (June 8).

K9 Blitz had served as Officer Jason Caudle’s partner for almost six years and was about to turn eight on June 16.

According to the Carpentersville Police Department, Blitz was a pure-bred German Shepherd who was born in the Czech Republic and was specifically bred and trained to work as a police K9.

Blitz was brought to the U.S. when he was around 16-months-old, where he received his first 12 weeks of training at TOPS Kennel in Grayslake through their police K9 training program.

Huntley’s Walmart remained open during the remodeling phase much to the dismay of some customers who had to get used to a new layout as the location of products shifted to new areas of the store.

“So, first of all, I promise that nothing is moving now for five years,” Walmart Store Manager Jim Hattendorf stated during a Facebook Live video.

In addition to his outdoor dining request, Zielinski also asked the Liquor Commission for an amendment to his establishment’s Class “A” liquor license, which would allow Bowl-Hi Lanes to serve alcohol outside.

Patrons would then be allowed to drink alcoholic beverages within the proposed outdoor tent area and an adjacent area enclosed with a temporary split rail fencing similar to what Hi-Bowl Lanes did under the village’s Temporary Dining program that was set in place during the peak of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

On March 10, village trustees agreed to sell the southern portion of the fire station property to developer Billitteri Enterprises, LLC.

In addition, trustees approved the final Planned Unit Development (PUD) that would allow Billitteri Enterprises the redevelopment and use of the property, which would consist of the construction of an approximately 5,181-square foot ground floor D.C.

He described the location as “extending from the end of Reed Road southwest to the Chicago-Northwestern railroad tracks.”

As residents may recall, On April 14, village trustees unanimously voted in favor of approving a Purchase and Sale Agreement, Redevelopment Agreement, and Planned Unit Development (PUD) for the property to accommodate the residential use of the building, which will include converting the building to 37 total apartment units.

Back in February, Village President Ray Bogdanowski signed a Monarch Pledge proclamation to help promote the conservation of monarch butterflies and other pollinators, according to the club.

Last year, the Rotary Club of Lake in the Hills joined Operation Pollination, which has the same mission as that proclaimed by Bogdanowski and the village.

David Johnson, the Village Manager, submitted an ordinance to the Village Board to modify the original approval after Billitteri Enterprise discovered that the existing building was not suitable for the planned added structure.

“You may have noticed we have increased our presence at the schools this week. In addition to the full-time School Resource Officer who is assigned to the Harmony Road Campus, additional officers will be at Huntley High School and Leggee Elementary for the remainder of the week out of an abundance of caution,” stated the Huntley Police Department on May 26.

The dog was shot and killed by Hal Phipps, who is the husband of current Wayne Village President Eileen Phipps and the neighbor of Ludwig’s owner, Joe Petit.

Phipps told authorities that on the day of the incident, he was on his property when he was approached by Ludwig and Petit’s other Dogo Argentino named Philotimo.

According to the district, the search process included a field of many qualified candidates, but it was ultimately Mitchell who was recommended to D158’s Board of Education.

The board approved hiring Mitchell at the May 19 Board of Education meeting.
