After some time, injections used to ease Cook’s knee pain stopped working, leading Cook to book an appointment at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital where she met with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brian Flanagan, MD.

Flanagan discovered that Cook’s knee was bone rubbing on bone and needed surgery to finally provide the relief she needed to return to a pain-free life.

Despite concerns from alarmed residents, Huntley High School Principal Marcus Belin assured parents in an email, that there was no danger to students or staff members of the school.

“This morning we are conducting a routine, unannounced search of our parking lot, locker rooms, and building in conjunction with the Huntley Police Department and local authorities and canine units,” said Belin in his email to parents of HHS students.

The Commission on Elder Law hopes to tackle the legal problems facing senior citizens not only by examining the role courts play in terms of guardianship cases but also in the Judicial Branch’s obligation to protect the legal rights of the most vulnerable populations.

Following the state supreme court’s announcement, on April 25, it was revealed that Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser had been appointed to serve on the Commission on Elder Law.

The one-day event will take place on Saturday, June 25, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Prairie Ridge High School, 6000 Dvoark Drive, Crystal Lake. All Participants must access the event by entering from Walk Up Rd.

The collection event is free, and registration is open to all Illinois residents. 

Upon their arrival at the scene, sheriff’s deputies discovered a deceased male, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. The victim was later identified as Stephen V. Holguin, 26, of Elgin.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the initial investigation of the incident indicated that Holguin was driving his 2008 Volvo S80 east on Plank Road near Marshall Road on the morning of April 16.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot of the fitness center.

Emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate the victim, but their attempts proved to be unsuccessful.

The West Dundee Police Department, along with assistance from the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, are reportedly questioning two individuals believed to be involved with what they allege to be a targeted shooting.

Colatorti will face current McHenry County Undersheriff Robb Tadelman.

In a marathon hearing, the McHenry County Electoral Board voted three to zero to deny objections filed by William Brogan and Joel Brumik both of McHenry. The objectors sought to have Colatorti's name removed from the ballot.

Electoral Board members Chairman Samuel J.H. Weyers; Steven Cuda and Lisle A. Stalter issued their findings April 14 at a McHenry County Administrative Building hearing. 

According to Pingree Grove & Countryside Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Chris Howell, upon arrival at the scene, fire protection personnel discovered that a small fire had broken out in the kitchen, which activated the restaurant’s fire alarm.

Fortunately, the fire had already gone out by the time responding fire departments arrived to investigate the incident.

The most recent hearing also saw the debut of two new electoral board members, Samuel J.H. Weyers and Steve J. Cuda, attorneys who were appointed by McHenry County Chief Judge James S. Cowlin to replace County Clerk Joe Tirio and Circuit Court Clerk Designee Debra Schmitt after they voluntarily stepped down from the board.

Barb Read, Village Special Events Manager, presented a resolution “designating the Village Sponsored Special Events area as a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area.” This allows for the consumption of alcoholic beverages in the town square, but only during village sponsored events.

DORA would allow outdoor alcohol during the seven Concerts in the Square, two Ladies Night Outs, three First Fridays on the Square, the September 10 Hootenanny Glow 5k, and the Very Merry Huntley on December 3.

The special occasion not only marked Thomas’ 215th birthday but would also be the day that the Huntley History Alliance would be unveiling a new granite gravestone marker that would be placed at the base of the quickly deteriorating Huntley family limestone monument.

Gronewold will again be a force in the sprints, both the 400-meter run and relays, while Swim aims to do well in the throws for the Red Raiders.

Gronewold is coming off a runner-up finish in the 400-meter run at the Class 3A State Meet. Gronewold clocked a 49.01 time at Eastern Illinois University's track last season. He just missed a state title to winner Brandon Butler of  Edwardsville's 46.48 seconds.

Back in November of 2021, a Kane County jury found Stevenson guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and armed violence for the April 2018 shooting deaths of Raymond Dyson, 29, and Mark McDaniel, 26, both of Elgin.

On April 4, Kane County Circuit Court Judge David P. Kliment sentenced Stevenson to serve 95 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) following evidence presented by Assistant State’s Attorneys Greg Sams, Hillary Sadler, and Hannah Thayer.

At the start of the meeting, McHenry County Clerk Joe Tirio announced that in order to expedite the proceedings, he would be voluntarily removing himself from serving on the board.

Christopher was taken into custody shortly after McHenry Police Department officers responded to a call on August 31, 2018, at his apartment.

45-year-old Heather Crimaldi of Freeport, Christopher’s sister, was found unresponsive and later pronounced deceased as a result of smoking crack cocaine and snorting heroin mixed with fentanyl.
