Historic roots aside, Sew Hop’d has been keeping busy each holiday season since its debut, to ensure disadvantaged families get the opportunity to experience the magic of the holidays along with everyone else.

With one of the busiest travel times of the year just around the corner, the police department reminds motorists to buckle up and drive sober, according to a news release from the department.

‘On regular days and holidays alike, law enforcement too often sees the results of driving impaired and not wearing a seat belt,” Chief Robert Porter said the in the release.

As previously reported in My Huntley News, a 78-page lawsuit was filed on behalf of 37 restaurants including Papa G’s and BBQ King of Huntley, asking for an issuance of a temporary restraining order for relief from Gov.

The $113,000 reconstruction of the bridge on Harmony Road over Coon Creek, about 10 miles west Huntley High School, involved replacement of two deck beams. The bridge had been closed since Oct. 2 for the work performed by Copenhaver Construction Inc. and paid for by motor fuel tax and RTA funds.

The Illinois Department of Transportation approved the bridge, which allowed it to be reopened to traffic without the weight restrictions that have been in effect.

Huntley Travel Managing Owner Bernice Bakley is optimistic about the prospect of a coronavirus vaccine.

“However, there are still so many obstacles for the travel industry to overcome before traveling truly opens up,” Bakley said. “Besides the obvious reasons many people are not currently traveling, the industry is dealing with some media outlets saying it is unethical to recommend travel during the pandemic and insinuating travel advisors would lie about safety to get people to travel couldn’t be farther from the truth,” she said.

Yet it is not just diabetics that are at risk, senior citizens and the immunocompromised also need to be vigilant about limiting their time outside of the home.

McHenry County was placed under Tier 1 mitigation by the State on October 31 due to 7-day rolling average testing positivity rates that exceeded 8% for three consecutive days. Testing positivity has continued to climb since late October and medical and surgical bed availability in McHenry County is currently at 27.3%, the lowest it’s been since spring.

The board set Dec. 10 as the date for a hearing on the village’s budget for the coming year, as well as the tax levy.

The only question in the budget is where the board plans to cut to make up for the $220,807 increase in contributions to the village’s police pension fund. The village is required by state law to increase contributions until the pension fund is 90% of fully funded by the year 2040.

The Kane County Health Department (KCHD) is asking public and private schools to take an “adaptive pause” for the period of November 23 to December 4. Any of the Kane County districts using a hybrid learning system are asked to switch to remote learning, exclusively for this period of time.

Though Susan followed up shortly stating that funeral arrangements are in the works, she has not made any further updates.

The meeting drew no public comments, either in-person or via email, which is unusual over the past months as the district has been reacting to changes in health metrics. Outspoken parents on all sides of the issue, along with staff members concerned about the impact on their own health, have occupied hours at the beginning of previous meetings, urging the board to either reopen all schools and school activities or maintain remote learning.

In announcing her retirement effective December 1, Jeffers said, “Their performance during the COVID-19 pandemic has revealed how essential their work is to the betterment and survival of Kane County.”

As the number of COVID-19 cases continues increasing, the staff at the Kane County Health Department recognizes Jeffers eight-and-a-half years as executive director and in total 15 years at the health department.

The decision by the board was prompted by a disagreement between Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Illinois High School Association, a non-governmental body that schedules and coordinates interscholastic sports for high schools across the state.

In late October, Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health—citing the most recent spike in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths in the state—labeled contact sports, like basketball and wrestling, as “high risk” for the spread of the coronavirus, canceled winter sports events, and pushed the season to spring.

“We’re just finishing phase one, and phase one is the addition,” said Doug Cataldo, library spokesperson. The parking lot has been paved and striped in the past week, and If construction stays on schedule, the addition could be occupied by spring of next year. That won’t be the end of the project, however, only the middle, as the second phase involves renovations to the existing library building.

Because of requirements set by the state to keep the tents from turning the outdoors into the indoors, the dining experience inside a tent won’t be warm and cozy but still will require parkas, hats and gloves.

The latest restrictions will kick in at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and would be in place for at least 14 days. The period could be longer, depending on whether the virus spread among people in the counties can be brought within the limits set by the state.

The first person in line — a woman wearing a colorful facemask and a hat that read “Hold My Drink, I Gotta Pet My Dog” — didn’t want to give her name but arrived about 6:45 a.m. for the 9 a.m. start of testing. She came early, she said, “because everybody heard on the news about people waiting for hours for the test.”

The district’s elementary schools had returned to a hybrid schedule of in-person and online learning on Monday, and the district’s middle schools and Huntley High School were slated to start a hybrid schedule on Nov. 2.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent Scott Rowe said the district “will do an adaptive pause from hybrid learning” at least through Friday, Nov.
