Five of the 2000-01 Redskins still live and work in the area. Brett Borchart and Andrew Mohney reside in Huntley, while Pat Kalamatas, Dave Marshall and Nate Berndt live in Crystal Lake. As the NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments kicked off, the players and their head coach Jay Teagle shared memories.

“It was a lot of fun, the time flies by fast,”  Kalamatas, a senior that season, said.

As previously reported, Kilian was diagnosed with cancer back in January 2023. His rapid decline in health and other complications relating to the disease eventually resulted in Kilian having to stop all treatment regimes in January of this year. On March 4, Kilian received the devastating news that the cancer was terminal.

According to his obituary, Kilian spent the remainder of his life at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington, where he was surrounded by his family.

Mosser alleges that on Feb. 26, Lee was present without authority at the Norris Recreation Center in St. Charles. While there, Lee reportedly approached a child in a locker room and made an inappropriate comment to that child.

Despite his new health challenges, Kilian continued to show strength and resilience as he underwent rigorous treatments to fight the rapidly spreading cancer.

According to a GoFundMe fundraiser that was organized for Kilian, his decline in health resulted in him being transitioned to an administrative role within the fire department back in October 2023. Regardless of the setbacks, Kilian’s peers stated that he continued to demonstrate unwavering dedication to his duties.

HHS Class of 2025 member Kylie Kachan was surprised with a $40,000 Big Future Scholarship by College Board representatives. A small gathering took place at Huntley High School Principal Dr. Marcus Belin's office where Kochan was presented the check. Kochan is the daughter of Krystie and Gary Kachan of Huntley, who were on hand for the ceremony.

Through this program, two $40,000 and hundreds of $500 scholarships, which totaled more than $3 million in 2022, are awarded each month.

As previously reported in My Huntley News, back in December, board members unanimously voted in favor of adopting the 2023 tax levy. The requested aggregate amount of total property taxes to be levied for 2023 would total over $80 million, which reflects a 5% increase over the extension in 2022.

While it is now 2024, Amazon’s newest facility in Huntley was officially able to unveil the receive center in a flag-raising and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb.

“We want to express our gratitude to everyone who has been a part of our journey as we close our doors at Spring Hill Mall,” Kohan Retail Investment Group said in a statement to NBC Chicago Friday.

According to the Feb. 22 Village Board meeting agenda packet, the site, which is currently zoned “M” Manufacturing District, is located at the northeast corner of Smith Drive (west) and Kreutzer Road. Currently, the anticipated primary tenant for the proposed new structure has been announced as Voxline, LLC.

According to a press release by the district’s Director of Communications and Public Engagement Denise Barr, Lombard is the first female superintendent to serve at D158. Before having been approved as the interim superintendent, Lombard’s role was as the district’s associate superintendent, a position she held for five years.

At the direction of the village board, staff have been in the process of finalizing a Purchase and Sale Agreement and Redevelopment Agreement with True North Properties, Inc.

Two Huntley sophomore girls, Janiah Slaughter, 105, and  Aubrie Rohrbacher, 130, earned championships the IHSA Regional, but took different career routes to get there.

“I've been wrestling since sixth grade, at 95 pounds, when I used to wrestle against boys,” Slaughter said.

For Rohrbacher, she is in just her second year in the sport.

“I also play lacrosse, and have played on a national team based in Michigan as a midfielder and defender,” Rohrbacher said.

Local community leaders and field experts will discuss the critical issues surrounding trafficking and exploitation. Individuals who attend the event will learn about myths versus the realities of human trafficking, risk factors and indicators, as well as learn information on how to help victims.

According to the Jan. 11 Village Board meeting agenda packet, the agreement established the jurisdictional boundary for both planning and annexation purposes with it set to expire in 20 years.

At the Dec. 7, 2023, Village Board meeting, Huntley Village Manager Dave Johnson told trustees that the original agreement approved in 2004 between the two villages was due to expire in 2024.

According to the Village Board meeting agenda summary for line item 5.8, the Village Board previously approved Ordinance (O) 2022-04.21, which updated truck weight roadway restrictions throughout Huntley. Before the approval of that ordinance, a limited number of roadways had posted weight restrictions, with the remaining roadways being labeled as “undesignated” or having had a 12,000 pounds or less GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Restriction).

“My family is spread over three states and this grandma just wants to spend more time with my kids and grandkids. I have worked for municipalities for about 28 years and full-time totally for 44 years — it is time,” Read told My Huntley News.

Read first began working as the permit coordinator for Huntley, however, in January 2007, she utilized her prior experience working in planning departments at other villages to move to the position of management assistant for Huntley’s Village Manager’s Office.

The victim has since been identified as 20-year-old Joseph “Joe” Zephries of Huntley. The Huntley Fire Protection District began administrating treatment for Zephries on scene, however, he was subsequently transported to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to the Huntley Police Department.

The vehicle that struck the man was traveling eastbound on Main Street when it collided with the male victim, who was on the south shoulder of the road.

The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital with what appeared to be critical injuries, stated authorities.
