As fire personnel approached their destination, a large column of smoke could be seen from several blocks away. Following this observation, the alarm was immediately upgraded to a “General Alarm,” which alerted other fire departments that assistance was required.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, sheriff’s deputies, with assistance from the Elgin Police Department and the Elgin Fire Department, arrived on the scene and immediately located the child.

Medical attention was rendered on the scene. It was then also determined that the juvenile victim had suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite the Village Board having approved Final Planned Unit Development (PUD) plans for a 7,500 square foot multi-tenant building with an attached 4,200 square foot Panera Bread restaurant back in 2017, that structure never materialized and those plans eventually expired.

Shortly after Elgin’s tornado sirens went off, residents reported funnel cloud formations and an eventual tornado touchdown in the Edgewater (Del Webb) subdivision at Bowes and Randall Roads, according to Elgin’s Emergency Operations Center.

Elgin Police Department officers, alongside fire protection personnel, were dispatched to the area at 6:28 p.m.

According to authorities, a 2016 black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck left the eastbound lane of traffic for unknown reasons and struck a 2022 white F150 Ford pickup truck head-on, which resulted in critical injuries being reported.

Both vehicles, upon initial investigation efforts, were discovered to have contained only the drivers as the sole occupants.

Authorities described the vehicle as a red-colored Hyundai Elantra.

Deputies began searching immediate areas where the vehicle may have fled to, where eventually, a deputy was able to locate a car on Beith Road that matched the description of the wanted vehicle.

According to a press release statement, Woodstock Police detectives and a member of the McHenry County Child Advocacy Center (CAC) spoke with the juvenile and a parent while at the hospital.

“Later in the day, a multidisciplinary team composed of members of the McHenry County CAC, the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Woodstock Police Department convened at the CAC,” stated authorities via the press release.

"My mom texted me and said the envelope came," Grauer said.

Despite the county’s best efforts, a recent significant increase in suspected fatal overdoses has been identified within a four-week period between May 12 and June 9, according to MCDH.

“Based on provisional McHenry County Coroner’s Office data, there were 2.5 times more overdoses during this time period compared to the preceding four weeks,” stated the health department in a press release statement.

The increase in these incidents led the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office to begin collaboration efforts with the Fox River Grove Police Department to jointly investigate the deaths and address the concerns surrounding the River Inn Motel.
