“It's nice to have those three players back for another year,” Red Raiders head coach Mike Naymola said. “We have a group of eight to 10 team leaders who were selected, based on performance last year, to communicate our expectations as coaches, to help with the culture and police the locker room.

Head Coach Jason Monson won a State Girls Track Coach of the Year award announced by U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCA). USTFFA announced state coach of the year winners for each state July 11. The organization includes collegiate and high school ranks.

The Red Raiders won the Class 3A Girls Track and Field State Championship with a 62.5 point total to Prospect's 52.

Four members of the group – Mike Dabe, Vinny Costantino, Joey Garlin and Andrew Ressler, are getting ready for college after graduating from Huntley High School.

“It's a lot of fun,” Dabe, who worked home plate, said. “We work for Fox Valley Blues umpires. Due to the shortage of umpires, they encourage young baseball players to get involved. 

The Red Raiders' season will consist of all Fox Valley Conference contests. All games begin at 7 p.m. Fridays with the exception of Oct. 7, which is a 1 p.m. start at Cary-Grove due to the Trojans' homecoming.

The varsity season begins with the Red Raiders hosting Crystal Lake Central Aug. 25.

The remainder of the schedule: Sept. 1, at McHenry; Sept. 8, home, Jacobs; Sept. 15, at Prairie Ridge; Sept.

Walker had his junior season cut short last fall when his left leg was broken during the Week 5 game against rival Jacobs. He missed the rest of the Red Raiders' 37-20 win which sent them on to an 8-2 playoff-bound and co-Fox Valley Conference championship season. He's ready for a full senior campaign.

"It happened when I was blocking for a running back," Walker said.

The group of Huntley leaders showed the way in several regular season statistics.  Quinlan finished with a 0.437 batting average, 45 hits, 30 RBIs and three home runs. Garlin ended with a 0.432 batting average, 54 hits and 36 RBIs.

The start to this camp had a different feel, as a new head coach was calling the drills and giving instructions. Collin Kalamatas once donned the Red Raiders' red-and-black in the early 2000s and teaches physical education at HHS. He was named head coach June 8, with the appointment needing Board of Education approval, probably at the June 15 meeting.

"The opportunity to guide Huntley basketball is an incredible opportunity," Kalamatas said.

The Heineman Middle School squad achieved one state champion and three other state place winners at the Illinois Elementary School Association(IESA)State Track and Field Meet May 19-20.

Heineman eighth grader Elena Fetzer won the girls shot put championship. Also, two relay teams placed as the seventh grade 4x100 meter relay quartet of Mia Habel, Reagan Ellis, Riley Galanis and Mayla Wade was seventh.

Senior Chloe Pfaff was named all-state by the Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association (IHSSCA). Four players who were named All-FVC. They are: Morgan McCaughn, Grace Helzer, Pfaff and Gabi Farraj.

The Red Raiders finished the season with a 17-5-3 record, the best in seven seasons led by head coach Matt Lewandowski. Huntley won a regional championship. the first in Lewandowski's seasons.

This new update to the boys basketball team will become effective pending the approval of the Board of Education (BOE) at the next BOE meeting.

According to LeMoine, Kalamatas has been a physical education teacher at D158 for the past 13 years and has additionally served as a coach in multiple capacities in the district.

Huntley village leaders became the latest to honor the Red Raiders Class 3A Girls Track and Field Team Champions June 8 at their meeting. Soon, signs will be placed in town in recognition of the team's title, and state champions Ally Panzloff in the discus throw; Dominique Johnson in the triple jump and three-time state champ Alexandria Johnson for the long jump and she won the triple jump crown in 2022.

But it was Jacobs, riding a five-game win streak, whose offense just keeps coming and players later celebrated a 7-4 upset win. Jacobs was only 14-18 when it began winning but improved to over .500 by scoring 16 total runs against FVC powers McHenry and then the Red Raiders.

McKale Hood concluded his high school high jump career with a sixth place finish May 27. Hood's final clearing height was 1.95 meters, or 6-feet,4.75 inches. Hood had cleared the first three heights but not 1.98 meters, 6-foot, 6 inches.

Also at Eastern Illinois University, Tommy Nitz placed 14th in the 3,200-meter run, besting 10 minutes at 9:21.95.

The Red Raiders' post-season hopes were dashed by Barrington, 9-5, at the Huntley sectional May 22. Five players - Katie Ferrara, Ally Schneider, Leah Holmberg and Ashley Zolen, tallied goals.  Head coach Joe Domka reflected on the season and the team's leaders.

"Ferrara has had her best statistical career as of yet, with 67 goals, 31 assists, 62 ground balls and 41 caused turnovers," Domka said.

Although the home team fell to the Scouts 12-2, ending the Red Raiders' season May 30, the future looks strong. A group of nine Class of 2023 members who finished 17-5 and a second straight sectional win, will turn the leadership over to the same number of lacrosse playing members of the Class of 2024.

There was  only one base runner allowed,  who reached on a wild pitch, was taken off the bases on a pick-off from Ressler to first baseman CJ Filipek. Ressler faced the minimum of 21 batters with about an 80-pitch effort.  The fan of White Sox pitching star Dylan Cease noted what was working this windy Saturday at Hampshire.

Although the Red Raiders' season ended with a 5-0 loss to Lake Zurich at the Machesney Park Harlem sectional semifinal May 23, the squad ended with the most wins in seven years. HHS won its own regional championship and had a six-game win streak before the loss to the Bears.

"Overall, I'm very proud of the girls," Huntley head coach Matt Lewandowski said. "We sat down at the beginning of the season and set some goals - we achieved all of them.

The Red Raiders, 16-4 overall, moved to the round two wins from the state finals with an 18-11 win over Lakes and an earlier 22-3 victory over Grant. Fox Valley Conference rival Prairie Ridge was the next hurdle May 26 in the Grayslake North sectional final.

Huntley was seeking to match last season's advancement to the super sectional. This season's super sectional is at HHS on May 30.

The distance runners qualified for state in the 3,200 meter run. Breanna clocked a 10:40.36 to earn a fifth-place finish for HHS, while Brittney ended 16th in a time of 11:03.59 at Eastern Illinois University May 20.

"She is our best distance runner ever at HHS," head coach Jason Monson said of Breanna.

The Red Raiders bring a 27-7 record into their first regional test, against Rockford Jefferson May 24 at Hampshire.

"We have prepared for the post-season all year, and now we get to start on Wednesday," Huntley head coach Andy Jakubowski said. "Our guys are ready for the post-season and now it comes down to  pitching, defense and situational hitting.
