"I just had dinners before the season to make sure we were all close," senior doubles player Emily Chong said.

Head coach Barry Wells credits those team-building activities as a big reason HHS was 13-1 record  in duals following the Huntley Quad on Sept. 17. Chong has teamed with sophomore Delaney Stock and the pair is unbeaten this season at No.

The clash will be a neighborhood tussle when Huntley hosts unbeaten Fox Valley Conference leader Jacobs at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 in Week 5 action.

Jacobs comes into the contest with a 4-0 league leading mark, one victory better than the Red Raiders' 3-1. Both teams come in off wins, as the Golden Eagles outlasted Prairie Ridge, 42-39, while Huntley held off Burlington Central, 16-7.

"I've only been golfing for a couple of years," Mullen said. "I didn't believe when they told me at first."

HHS head boys golf coach Collin Kalamatas told My Huntley News this was the first hole-in-one in the boys program history.

The memorable shot came in a dual win over Jacobs Sept.

Jacob Jacobo scored the game-winning goal against the Libertyville in the 75th minute off an assist from Ansel Dias. Ethan Robertson played all 80 minutes as goalie and recorded three saves. HHS was coming off a comeback win in the Huntley Quad tournament championship.

The Red Raiders were rolled over by Prairie Ridge35-7, for their first loss of the season Sept. 9 for a 2-1 record.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Wolves just kept coming at HHS's squad as QB Tyler Vasey led the 3-0 Wolves to score 35 points in 25 minutes of play. The Wolves outgained the Red Raiders, 481-234 in total yards.

Huntley's boys cross-country team captured the first five spots, all within five seconds of each other Sept. 6. The Red Raiders won double dual hosted by Crystal Lake South. The HHS boys had 15 points, Crystal Lake South 62 and Hampshire 58. The HHS girls edged South, 29-34 and Hampshire ended with 69 points.

For the boys, HHS sophomore Tommy Nitz won with a time of 16:47.71.

For the second straight week, Huntley's turnovers quickly became points and the Red Raiders are enjoying a 2-0 start. HHS outlasted McHenry 23-15 in the home opener Sept. 2. Big-play man Ben Wiley started the night by carrying a HHS flag and classmate James Lang's interception concluded the "Gold Out Games" evening.

Lang stepped in front of a McHenry receiver for an interception with five seconds left.

Seniors Hudson Nielsen and Zach Heitkemper are two of seven returning players and have helped show the way to the 15 newcomers.

"Heitkemper and Nielsen have been sparks for us on offense," HHS head coach Matt Lewandowski said. "They've connected on a fraction of the opportunities they have created so far.

HHS notched two dual match wins for a 3-1 dual record as they beat St. Charles North and Crystal Lake Central.

Huntley seniors Emily Chong and sophomore Carlie Weishaar won their second doubles bracket at the Jacobs 16 tournament.

Fifth-place finishes were from freshman Ella Doughty at first singles; Ari Patel at second singles; the first doubles team of Kate Burkey and Elaina Hibbeler.

Junior Aubrey Dingbaum led the Red Raiders as she shot a 43. Sammi Campanelli was next with a 48 score and senior Abby Panier carded a 49.

"Our goal is to break 200 every night out," Red Raiders coach Ann Christiansen said.

Dingbaum has been the scoring leader for HHS so far the coach said.

Naymola had good reason to show off the game ball presented by his players, as the Red Raiders celebrated a 37-20 season-opening win over the Tigers,

"The team, the community, everyone was eager to get the season started," Naymola said.

All facets contributed to the victory - offense, defense, the kicking game and a capacity crowd at the visitors' side of Owen  Metcalf Field.

Returning state qualifier Tommy Nitz finished second in the boys' varsity race as he completed the 3.11 miles course in 16:23.33. Fellow Red Raider Ty Rasmussen was fifth in 16:57.92. Karson Hollander of Crystal Lake Central set the pace with a winning time of 16:30.75.

The Burak sisters, both seniors, coming off a state qualifying season, Breanna and Brittney, ended third and fifth, respectively.

"We won the FVC the last two years, but we graduated a talented group of seniors, including four-time state qualifier Ruhi Gulati. We have very good returning players and I think we still have strong depth and be successful this season," HHS coach Barry Wells said. According to the village, in October 2005, Huntley received a jurisdictional transfer for 2.05 miles of Huntley-Dundee Road, including the intersection of Kreutzer Road, from McHenry County.

The Red Raiders prepared for league dual matches with three tournaments. The Red Raiders were runner-up at their own 14-team tournament at Pinecrest Golf Club Aug.18 after two fourth-place finishes at other tournaments.

"I am very pleased with the way we're starting out," HHS coach Ann Christiansen said.

The Red Raiders squad placed two in the top-10 to earn medals at Pinecrest Golf Club.
